The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor. The position is to be filled by 1 January 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter, subject to negotiation. The position is time limited for 4 years.

It is a high priority at the Department of Computer Science to foster a research environment of highest excellence allowing people from diverse backgrounds to thrive. The researcher will join a rapidly growing department, with strong research sections in the areas of Algorithms and Complexity, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Human-Centered Computing, Image and Medical Image Analysis, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval, Programming Languages, Software Engineering and Data Management, and other areas of computer science.

The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 and is the oldest and largest university in Denmark. It is often ranked as the best university in Scandinavia and consistently as one of the top places in Europe. Within computer science, it is ranked number 4 in the European Union according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2022.

Description of the position
We are looking for outstanding, experienced researchers with an innovative mindset and intellectual curiosity to strengthen and complement the research profile of the department within computational neuroscience. Research areas of interest include all aspects of neuroscience in a computer science context. Particular topics of opportunities are open science and data sharing in neuroscience, clinical integration and testing, methodology driven research in relation to neuroscience with an outset in computer science. Candidates are expected to publish in premier venues within neuroscience including but not limited to Nature Neuroscience, Journla of Cerebral Blood Flow & Metabolism, Journal of Nuclear Medicine, NeuroImage, Human Brain Mapping.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within computational neuroscience. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
