At the Department of Biology, SDU we are looking for a motivated candidate to study the plant availability of P from waste water sludge as well as speciation of P and Fe species by different analytical chemical techniques, such as e.g. 31P NMR spectroscopy, P-K edge XANES and Diffusive gradients in thin films, as well as plant experiments. The candidate should have a strong background in both plant ecology and chemistry. The candidate should have analytical chemistry and materials characterization skills and experience by e.g., NMR spectroscopy and P XANES will be preferred. The candidate should be independent and able to communicate fluently in English, have good writing skills as well as possess good interpersonal skills.
The PhD scholarship covers the area of biogeochemistry and analytical chemistry and will be aligned with ongoing research at the Freshwater Ecology group at the Department of Biology and the Inorganic Chemistry group at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Southern Denmark.
The PhD candidate will be appointed to the Department of Biology, University of Southern Denmark with a main supervisor Kasper Reitzel ([email protected]) from this department and a co-supervisor Ulla Gro Nielsen ([email protected]) from the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy and David W. O’Connell from the University of Dublin (TCD). The candidate is expected to spend approx six months at the University of Dublin during the project.
