SDU Mechanical Engineering (SDU ME) invites applications for vacant position as Associate Professor in Maritime Technology. SDU ME is part of Department of Technology and Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, located at the main campus in Odense.
SDU ME embraces a wide range of expertise within mechanical design and construction, structural dynamics, materials science and fluid mechanics. We offer educational programs in mechanical engineering at both bachelor and master levels. We are engaged in research and development projects in collaboration with research institutions as well as industry.
We have decided to strengthen the competences of the section within maritime technology and therefore we are looking for a candidate with strong competences in that research field.
The maritime research at the University of Southern Denmark span a broad academic range within the discipline of engineering, health, business and social science and the successful applicant will have a unique opportunity to participate in cross-disciplinary research. The successful candidate must have the drive for collaboration in and across disciplines, work closely with the maritime sector, the industry and be able to compete for national and international research grants.
In addition, the candidate shall contribute with competence and dedication to teaching of existing and new courses at bachelor and master level and supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students. The teaching will mainly be related to mechanical engineering.
The candidate must hold M.Sc. and PhD degrees related to mechanical engineering with a profile within naval architecture or maritime engineering as well as:
The advertised position is a permanent position and we expect non-speaking Danish candidates to learn to speak Danish within some years.
Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty. As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.
The position is open now and the start date is March 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Requirements for the position
Employment as an associate professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.
An interview might be part of the assessment process.

- Team-working skills in addition to self-motivation and the ability to work independently
- Good communication skills in English
