The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy (FKF) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for a permanent position as associate professor in Enzyme Catalysis.
The department has a strong chemistry programme with international leading researchers within Nucleic Acid Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, Material Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Green Chemistry and Computational Chemistry. In addition to the chemical research programme the department has a strong research profile within pharmaceutical technology.
The department intends to strengthen its chemical profile in the field of Enzyme Catalysis and seeks a researcher that can establish a competitive international research group in this area and at the same time establish a collaboration with existing relevant research groups.
The successful candidate may have a strong background within enzyme immobilization and modification and/or enzyme catalysis in organic, biphasic, and emulsion reaction media or related topics.
Requirements and Expectations
Research: The successful candidate is expected to have a relevant MSc and PhD degree in chemistry or material science and must have a strong and independent research profile as documented by an excellent track record of peer-reviewed publications and a proven ability to attract substancial external funding. Potential collaborative possibilities with chemists and pharmacists within the department will be an advantage as well as experience with collaborations with industry.
Teaching: The successful candidate should have a strong teaching record. This includes experience with teaching courses within the chemistry curriculum at bachelor and master level as well as experience with project supervision at all levels from bachelor to PhD. Documented experience with development of new courses using future teaching methods, through e-learning, flipped classrooms and online learning methods will be an advantage. Teaching in English is accepted. However, the successful applicant is expected to learn basic Danish within five years and the university offers language courses.

The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is an international institution with approximately 160 employees of which 37 are faculty members. To support experimental work the department has both a mechanical and electronics workshop. The department hosts four educational programmes in physics, chemistry, pharmacy and medicinal chemistry with approximately 500 students enrolled. The research at the department is internationally competitive and attracts substantial funding from external foundations and stakeholders in Denmark and internationally.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

• A full list of publications
• Copies of all publications on which the applicant wishes to be evaluated
• A brief survey of the applicant's most important research results and research plans for the next three years
• A teaching portfolio.
Shortlisting may be used in the assessment process.

An interview may be included as a part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications.
