The Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Functional Material (EECFM) Group, Section of Chemical Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Environmental Technology, University of Southern Denmark, (SDU) invites applications for a Postdoc. / Assistant Professor position within the area of sustainable production and recycling of metal nanoparticle catalyst for a period of three years. The position is linked to the project EUDP 2019-II 3R – Recycle, Reuse and Reduce of materials from fuel cells and electrolyzers.
The targeted starting date for the position is 1st April 2020. The EECFM has expertise within the fields of material synthesis and characterisation, electrochemistry, energy conversion and technical development on material recycling and critical material circular economy. A successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research, collaborate with the world scientific as well as commercial community in the field of catalyst metal (especially platinum group metals) nanoparticle recycling and synthesis. The candidate is expected to contribute to the excellent research and applied science. The main tasks include the following four activities:Comprehensive characterization of metal nanoparticle and the associated matrix polymer or ceramic materials Mechanism studies and condition screening on metal nanoparticle degradation and dissolution Metal species transformation, separation and purification Catalyst synthesis aligned with external collaboration partners
It is preferred if candidates have experience and contributions within one or more of the following areas:proton exchange membrane fuel cell and electrolyzer catalyst syntheses/characterization (RDE, AST protocol, in-situ/ex-situ component evaluation) proton exchange membrane (perfluorinated sulfuric acid ionomer) production / processing / development Electrode preparation / printing / coating Catalyzed particle filter /emission control unit preparation / coating Industrial catalysis Heterogeneous catalysis and reaction characterization Wet (precious) metal chemistry Teaching experience at the undergraduate / graduate level of relevant subjects

The candidate must be able to carry out independent, systematic and rigorous research work, which is clearly aligned with the overall project and research group activity. For an assistant professor position, the successful candidate is expected to initiate and obtain funding for internationally competitive research activities. Commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level is also expected. The position thus holds a high level of responsibility, but also comes with influence and opportunity to develop and deliver research and education to the highest international level. Employment as a postdoctoral fellow/ assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD/outstanding postdoc level in chemistry, material science or a closely related field. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty. The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
