We are looking for a passionate Scientist with interest in bringing improved products to the market and helping us to keep pushing the boundaries of fuel efficiency solutions for the marine industry.
Since 1915, Hempel has helped our customers protect their hull against fouling, thereby keeping the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions low. We need you to help us further support our customers in diminishing their negative impact on the environment.
Scientist for Product Development with passion for sustainability
In this role, you will be responsible for the development of new coatings and products for the marine industry, from the lab and all the way into the market. You will be working both in the lab with planning, developing and testing different prototypes, and in the office; engaging with internal and external stakeholders to bring the project to a successful end.

In this position you will be working in a group of 7 passionate researchers in our Fuel Efficiency Solutions team in Denmark. Everyday we strive to develop the best solutions in the market for our customers, in an efficient and sustainable manner, so you will have a key role in expanding our competences and capabilities within this field.

In this role, you will be responsible for the development of new coatings and products for the marine industry, from the lab and all the way into the market. You will be working both in the lab with planning, developing and testing different prototypes, and in the office; engaging with internal and external stakeholders to bring the project to a successful end.
Some of the key tasks that you will have in this position include:
- Planning and executing on projects to develop new coating prototypes that can solve our customers’ problems with focus on sustainability
- Planning and conducting laboratory experiments with small coating prototypes based on well-known as well as new chemistries, and analyse and interpret the results
- Managing the technical aspects of development projects and being responsible for specific project deliverables
- Engaging and aligning with other Hempel colleagues and customers to ensure optimal development of the new products
- Estimating the costs, resources and time required to conduct research projects
What we are looking for someone with passion for sustainability and innovation
For the position as Scientist for Sustainable Product Development, we seek a candidate with the following competences:
- University degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar. Background on organic chemistry, polymers or coatings would be a strong advantage
- Experience and interest in Project Management and R&D would be an advantage
- Structured, can-do attitude and networking skills
- Strong passion about sustainability and innovation
- Experience with silicone chemistry would be an advantage
- Hands-on approach and willingness to work in the lab
