Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is looking for an experienced Global Communications & Press Relations Manager with strong staff management skills to support an organizational transition and a new global 5-year business strategy. You will be responsible for a team of both press advisors, internal communication staff and a content team based in our Copenhagen headquarters. DRC is the largest Danish humanitarian organization working in 40 countries and employing 9,000 staff.
The Danish Refugee Council is launching a new global 5-year business strategy that needs to be supported by a global communication strategy and plan and an aligned organizational transition. To succeed in this position, you will need to be a solid communication professional with strong staff management skills and a global mindset. You will need to analyze needs and objectives in our strategic direction and based on that set the direction for communication, internally as well as externally. The job has an extensive international outlook and requires a person who follows international trends and has an international work capacity. Non-Danes are therefore very welcome to apply. However, Danish, spoken and written, is an advantage. You are skilled at driving processes in a complex organization through informal leadership and collaboration. You bring an extensive communications toolbox with a focus on press and overarching communication bridging fundraising communication and all other communication and using a multi-channel, strategic approach to communication. You leverage sharp advocacy stances and campaign appeals in a compelling, selling and engaging way to a Danish and a global audience. You use the same approach internally to support employee engagement, understanding of direction and culture.
You will be responsible for a team of 10 in Copenhagen skilled within a vast number of work areas including social media, website, donor communication, corporate, internal and fundraising communication, and press. The Global Communication & Private Fundraising Department counts 45 staff in Copenhagen. You will be part of a management team including a Head of Private Fundraising and the Executive Director Global Communication & Private Fundraising to whom you will report.
Main tasks:
- Translates DRC’s overall strategy into day-to-day priorities and direction for the communication channels and the team’s members
- Supports employee engagement, incl. professional development and coaching
- Assists in formalizing strategies for DRC’s internal and external communication platforms
- Serves as “gatekeeper” by prioritizing requests and input from internal and external stakeholders
- Approves content with an eye for details and potential sensitivities ensuring the protection of beneficiaries and staff
- Monitors budgets, salaries, vacation for the team
About you
- We expect that you have solid experience in communications or journalism or similar.
- You have an international profile and are fluent in spoken and written English.
- You should be able to contribute with a positive and service-minded attitude to collaborate and interact with multiple and diverse stakeholders throughout our 40 country operations and headquarters.
- You are independent with a strong drive, are robust, and exhibit a lot of energy.
- You have a structured work approach and project management skills.
- You bring an extensive communications toolbox with a focus on press and content marketing.
- You have both a humanitarian and commercial strategic acumen.
- You have strong staff management skills and you thrive and excel in the discipline
- You are used to working in a global organization.
- You enjoy travelling, is well-travelled and have an international outlook. You would need to travel approx. 1-2 weeks per year.
- You master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity.

Start date: 1 April 2021
The position is permanent.
Your employment conditions are regulated by The Danish Employee Act and Lederaftalen (agreement for leaders) between Dansk Arbejdsgiverforening (Danish Employer’s Association) and Lederne (Leaders’ Union). The employee is not covered by a collective agreement in addition to this. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
