Who we are
The Danish Refugee Council, DRC, is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs working in around 40 countries worldwide. DRC’s mission is to provide assistance, support protection and promote durable solutions to ensure a dignified life for refugees, internally displaced people and communities affected by displacement.
The Programme, Policy & External Relations (PPE) Department in DRC is responsible for DRC’s programmatic response development, global strategies, advocacy, learning and knowledge sharing, expert deployments as well as for DRC’s asylum activities in Denmark. The department has around 120 employees, including representations in Brussels and Geneva. The PPE Management Support team supports the Executive Director and the Department Management Team in their overall leadership and management responsibilities.
About the internship
As an intern, you will become part of a small support team working closely with the PPE Executive Manager. Your main tasks will be related to preparation and facilitation of meetings and decision-making processes, internal communication, and ad hoc administrative tasks. The tasks will include, but not be limited to:
- Facilitate department - and management meetings.
- Follow up on selected decisions and support change initiatives across the department.
- Become a technical super-user and advisor on Zoom and Microsoft365, including SharePoint and Teams.
- Work with information management and experiment with new solutions for internal communication and knowledge sharing.
- Provide ad hoc support to the Management of DRC’s Operations Departments.
- Support admin tasks ad hoc.
- If you find any processes particularly interesting, such as strategy work or organizational culture, we are very open to support you in following and supporting the workflows of your choice.
More specifically, some of your tasks will be to:
- Prepare agendas and presentations for management meetings, take minutes, and follow up on decisions.
- Coordinate meetings, events, and trainings across the department.
- Support the department in facilitating larger virtual meeting in Teams and Zoom in an engaging manner.
- Help develop our new intranet as the primary go-to-place for knowledge sharing and global communication and provide colleagues with technical support.
- Identify creative and effective ways of convening management news, knowledge and learning.
- Write communication pieces for the department, across the global organization, and for external use.
- Support the administration of budget- and personnel-related issues, as well as ad hoc admin tasks such as maintenance of e-mail lists, planning of meetings and seminars etc.
As an intern in the PPE Management Support team, we offer you the opportunity to:

- Get a unique insight into DRC’s decision-making on global issues such as strategy, programmatic priorities, financing, risk management, partnerships, and advocacy for some of the world’s most vulnerable populations.

- Be creative and work under freedom with responsibility to solve some of the department’s organisational development tasks within communication, knowledge sharing, culture and cross-organisational collaboration.
- Gain technical skills from digital collaboration platforms.
- Work independently with liberty to create and complete your own projects.
- Be part of a fast working, trusting, and dynamic team, including the Executive Manager of the PPE Department.
- Work in an international environment with ambitious, fun, and highly experienced colleagues.
As an intern in the PPE Management Secretariat, we expect you to
- Commit to the values and Code of Conduct of the Danish Refugee Council.
- Be able to work independently and proactively and balance many different tasks at the same time.
- Thrive working in a team.
- Have analytical skills, an eye for detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Have an interest in and flair for communication, information management and administrative tasks. Demonstrated talent for creative communication is an asset.
- Have a genuine interest in technical solutions. Specific experience with Microsoft 365 is an asset.
- Be open-minded and flexible towards the different tasks assigned to you, including being willing and interested in undertaking other ad hoc tasks as required (from printing to PPT development).
Your qualifications
Your field of study is not paramount, but it will most likely be within the social sciences, international relations and/or public administration. Experience and interest in the area of communications will be considered an added value. To apply for the internships, you must meet the following requirements:
- Confirm that you have the required permits to work and live in Denmark.
- Have an interest in international affairs and humanitarian assistance.
- Be enrolled at a university during the period of the internship.
- Have completed a minimum of two years of higher education.
- Be fluent in spoken and written English.
- Have the ability to navigate in a challenging environment and handle a wide complexity of tasks.

Conditions
Please note that the internship is unpaid.
You must be able to begin the internship by mid-August 2021 and commit to an internship of at least 5 (preferably 6) months. Working hours are 32 hours per week Monday-Friday.
As an intern with the DRC PPE Department, you will be working at the Danish Refugee Council’s Headquarters in Copenhagen and report to the PPE Management Coordinator. Depending on the COVID-19 situation in Denmark, there might be a need to work partly from home.
