The modelling team within System Design department is the competence center for evaluation and modelling of technical solutions across the entire wind farm design. The Modelling Team is responsible for developing and operating the model suite we use to assess and evaluate the design of our future windfarms, utilizing advanced mathematical optimization techniques, co-simulation of multiparameter physical models and mastering the full complexity and impacts of such a design considering the full life time of the wind farms. The model suite is 100% developed in-house in Vattenfall due to its complexity and confidential content.

Your job
As our new Modelling Associate Engineer you will take part in developing, expanding and operating the model suite. The model suite enables Vattenfall to explore multiple potential solutions, create robust pre-designs of windfarms, to guide our business decisions as well as making credible pre-evaluations of new technologies on product, system and park level. The achieved findings and recommendations are essential to guide Vattenfall’s technology planning and technology roadmaps in order to be able to develop, construct and operate the most cost efficient windfarms in the world.

Main tasks includes:
• Create models of various parts of a windfarm design and integrate them in the Matlab based Vattenfall model suite for optimization purposes.
• Validate and ensure high quality of the models created
• Collaboration with technical experts across different engineering fields in the wind farm design process.
• Develop structured code primarily in Matlab
• Initiate exploration of potential new mathematical methods for optimization.
• Explore new technologies for windfarm designs
• Contributing to the process and using the Vattenfall model suite to navigate through the multiple possible combinations of components, methods and approaches, to narrow the solution space down to a few scenarios – the ones that has the highest potential for future Vattenfall wind parks.

Your profile:

You possess good interpersonal skills and can communicate technical messages on a clear and constructive way both internally and to external partners. You thrive in an informal environment, where we often invent the process and tools. In addition, the following qualifications are important for this position:

• Engineering Master’s degree (or equal) with a relevant scope such as wind engineering, applied mathematics or Physics
• Experience with the complex design of a windfarm is a plus, but depending on the candidate not an absolute must
• Strong analytical mind, that on one side can dig deep into advanced modelling methods and on the other side understands the business impact of the results, and see the bigger picture
• Experience with software development and software architecture is a plus
• Strong Matlab skills
• Sitting in the System design department, a profound system understanding with multiple parameters and interfaces, embracing high complexity, is paramount
• Natural curiosity and strong personal drive to constantly challenge the perceived reality, and do your best to steer away from sub-optimal solutions
• Strong command of English, both verbally and written
• Previous engineering experience 0-3 years

Location:
