About the department

Companion SaMD comprises about 40 dedicated and talented employees located in Seattle (US) and in Søborg (DK). We are responsible for the research and development of Software as Medical Devices (SaMD) for the Novo Nordisk drug pipeline. In the department, we have a high diversity of competencies and cultural backgrounds, and it is something we actively take advantage of in developing our organisation and processes. The Digital Health area in Novo Nordisk spans across several departments, it is an engaging, interactive, and emerging area where we work agile in cross-functional teams to develop future products for our patients.

We are part of Device & Delivery Solution (DDS) with more than 350 colleagues who design and develop innovative solutions including new device platforms, and connected systems.

Delivery and connected devices support patients in taking the right dose, in the right way, while digital SaMD simplifies the treatment and enables a more meaningful dialogue between the patient and health care provider. To ensure this development journey our delivery and connectivity systems are developed in close collaboration between patients and the scientific discovery teams across Novo Nordisk.

The position

As Manager Innovation & Engineering, you will head up a team of 12 talented and competent researchers and engineers who engage in the development of the first-generation SaMD products in Novo Nordisk. You will be part of the DDS Companion SaMD leadership team and will be overall accountable for deliverables related to the system development of our SaMD solutions. You will take an important part in setting direction, developing our function and the future companion SaMD.

Main responsibility relates to below areas:

  • People & Team Development : Attract and retain top talent and develop systems engineers and architects to reliably execute timelines for cutting-edge SaMD solutions. Create a culture of hands-on design and development with deep levels of trust and a significant focus on personal development and team agility.
  • Technical Execution : Reliably deliver complex development programs on time through a network of internal and external partnerships. Ensure the appropriate levels of technical rigor to commercial robust technologies that meet the user needs.
  • Process Development : Develop the needed processes and infrastructure to optimize our development activities with an aim of accelerating development, driving efficiencies, and creating an agile, hands-on culture.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships : Ensure smooth collaboration between the Devices & Delivery Solutions area and other critical internal partners including but not limited to; digital health, IT, regulatory, marketing, quality, product supply etc. Build upon and develop meaningful external partnerships across various development partners, manufacturing partners, suppliers, commercial digital health ecosystem partners and innovators in the field to commercialize meaningful product systems.
  • Innovation : Ensure robust technology and product roadmaps are developed through internal and external collaborations as to continuously innovate across the portfolio.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, we expect you to:

  • hold a Master’s degree or PhD within relevant engineering areas combined with solid experience in developing digital products.
  • have a previous experience in people management that could have been obtain either by direct or indirect management.
  • be familiar with requirement management systems, modular product development, and agile.
  • be fluent in English both written and spoken.

It would be considered as an advantage if you have a previous experience with developing Software as Medical Device class C products.

As a person, you have a high level of autonomy, very strong stakeholder management capabilities and good people skills that ensure involvement of both internal and external stakeholders. You have great attention to detail and a preference for structure, planning, and coordination. Finally, you have a strong technical foundation within development, and you are passionate about digital products.
