Software Engineer – Algorithms and Optimization

As a Software Engineer you will be a key driver in building products that will enable our customers to realize their dreams.
We offer
You will be part of the Service Delivery Platform focused on streamlining, optimizing, and automating container operations via advanced software solutions. You will join one of our highly capable scrum teams in Copenhagen and will work closely with both business and technology to build the digital backbone of our global container logistics business and optimize the flow of containers around the globe.
As a Software Engineer you will take central part in designing and implementing high value software products for our business. You will be part of a strong engineering team working together to build applications used daily to route multiple thousands of containers on Maersk’s global vessel network using advanced graph theory. There are a lot of challenging and interesting problems to solve ahead, and through close collaboration with both business and technology you will be a key part of that journey.
The Service Delivery Platform is a geographically distributed initiative, with world-class engineering teams in Denmark (Copenhagen), Spain (Algeciras), and India (Bangalore, Pune), and end users and stakeholders situated all over the globe - you will be part of this international and diverse organization consisting of highly talented and motivated people from across the world.

How we work
The Service Delivery Platform consists of several cross-functional feature teams, each tackling a different problem within our business domain. We aim to keep teams co-located and self-contained but thrive working with stakeholders from across the organization. Scrum is our methodology of choice, and we seek to continuously refine our process to suit our needs.
We strive to empower each team with as much autonomy as possible, but don’t shy away from cross team alignment when it adds value. We feel accountable for our work and are not afraid to take on the full DevOps responsibility for what we build. Our work culture is informal with collaboration at its core, and we believe that giving everyone a chance to be heard is the best way to achieve great results.
The team is a mix between software engineers who are focused on algorithms and operations research and more traditional software engineers focused on software development. Together the team builds a complete product. Your focus will be the underlying algorithms, but you will also be exposed to the rest of the product.
Multiple people in the leadership team have a background in operations research which is being recognized as a key driver in achieving Maersk's vision of finding better solutions using data and optimization.
Our technologies of choice are C# and .NET Core for algorithms and on the backend, TypeScript and Angular on the frontend, and Microsoft Azure as our go-to infrastructure platform. Our target architecture is microservice-based and we aim to always use the technologies and cloud services that best suit our needs.
Key responsibilities
- Designing, improving, and maintaining custom implemented graph algorithms used daily to route multiple thousands of containers on Maersk’s global network of vessels. Building a product that is akin to “Rejseplanen.dk” for containers.
- Create software products, with a continuous focus on both business value and technical sustainability.
- Drive features through to completion and take responsibility for the value we deliver.
- Work with your team and relevant stakeholders to find the right solutions to the right problems.
- Promote an agile mindset and good software practices within your team.
- Continuously stay up-to-date on relevant technologies and use this knowledge to push the team forward.
We are looking for
- A technical background with a master’s or PhD degree in engineering, mathematics, or computer science with a specialisation within the field of mathematical optimization, operations research, or algorithms.
- A broad understanding of software architecture and technical design.
- Experience in C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Core, and Microsoft Azure is an advantage.
- A great team player and a strong collaborator.
