The Niels Bohr Institute (NBI) announces the opening of a secretary position at DARK.
We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual to assist in all aspects of DARK's administration. You must have a strong sense of commitment and excellence and thrive in a fast-paced innovative environment. The position is open from 1 June 2020 or soon hereafter.
About DARK
A research section at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, DARK is a world-class research group, focused on understanding the very earliest formation of stars and galaxies and their evolution, the nature of the mysterious dark energy, dark matter, compact objects, active galactic nuclei, and the formation and effects of cosmic dust. Activities at DARK focus on research, but other activities are also essential: communication (both internal and external) an extensive guest program, general administration, recruiting and teaching.
DARK’s core values: enabling our scientists to truly develop their scientific potential, thanks to an open, welcoming, and diverse environment. We encourage initiative, creativity and originality and always aim for reliability, thoroughness and excellence in our projects. We believe that the best way to get there is via interactions both scientifically and socially and by actively encouraging diversity at all levels of our structure.
DARK is located on Vibenhuset, Lyngbyvej 2, 4th floor, Copenhagen.
The position
The successful candidate will play an important role in providing administrative support to a dynamic unit and will work closely with DARK’s administrative coordinator in ensuring that daily office operations are performed in a seamless and efficient manner. Tasks will include, but not limited to, assisting with travel arrangements, expense reports, supporting section budget management, assisting with event planning and producing monthly newsletters. You will also offer support to our scientific staff including our Bachelors, Masters and PhD students.
You will be part of both a local administrative team and the administration at NBI with colleagues in similar positions.
The position is for 4 years with an expiry date of 1 July 2024.
Qualifications
The right candidate will quickly learn the needs and routines of the group and also learn how to efficiently navigate the university’s collection of guidelines that govern workplace procedures and processes. You are able to both think and interact at a strategic level, and at an implementation level, work independently as required, and adapt well to ever-changing conditions. Previous relevant experience at a university would be beneficial, but is not required. Fluency in English is essential and excellent writing skills would be an advantage; Danish fluency ideal. Basic computer skills are also required.
We offer
You will be a part of a world leading research environment. DARK is a fun, diverse and dynamic international workplace which offers possibilities for personal and professional development. The local admin team takes pride in having a positive and healthy work environment. You will work very independently but be supported by helpful colleagues.
You have a big influence on how you go about your tasks and planning.
Terms of employment
This is a full time position available from 1 June 2020 or upon agreement. The preferred work hours are 9.00 -16.30 on Mondays – Thursdays, and 9.00-16.00 on Fridays with some degree of flexibility.
