About the Laboratory
TestCenter Denmark (TCDK) is the high-capacity laboratory at the Statens Serum Institute (SSI). Our task is to be able to provide high capacity diagnostics in the event of public health emergencies. The laboratory was founded to provide high throughput diagnostic capabilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. Post pandemic, the laboratory is now in an exciting phase of transformation, where we run preventive preparedness projects and maintain the ability scale up diagnostic capacity at any time if necessary.
Our assays are automated for scalability and quality assurance is achieved through a digital data flow. Currently, we monitor SARS-CoV-2 through wastewater analysis while also analyzing daily human samples for respiratory diseases such as influenza, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, we perform subtyping variant PCR and participate in collaborations on virus variant sequencing via WGS analysis. We also lead and participate in several preparedness related projects.

About the Position
We are looking for an experienced leader with a relevant background to manage the academic team at TCDK. It is important the you are strong communicator and are able to coordinate projects and collaborations both within the department as well as with other departments at the institute and with external collaborators.
As section leader for the academic team in TCDK, you will be in charge of approximately 10 highly motivated academics who handle a wide range of tasks. The academic team plays a significant role in ensuring the daily activities of the lab as well as developing and implementing new assays. The key tasks are:
The academic team also plays key roles in development projects related to emergency preparedness, both in human diagnostics analysis and wastewater analysis. Many of the projects are financed by grants (e.g. EU, NNF, Realdania). Furthermore, the aim is to attract new projects and obtain even more grant financing in the future. Thus, your role will also involve seeking research funding for the department.

Furthermore, you should have a keen interest in new laboratory technologies, and always an eye for automatization, that can be utilized to effectively manage an increasingly complex portfolio of projects.

The appointment takes place as Chief Consultant with personnel management in accordance with the current joint agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and the Central Organisation of Academics.

- ProfeSSIonal mentoring in laboratory automation and IT integration
- ProfeSSIonal mentoring in molecular biological analysis setup

Qualifications

- PhD in a relevant field
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
- A strong background in the development, validation, and operation of assays
- A strong background in automation of assays
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Strong management and collaboration skills
