DRC is looking for an inspiring Head of Internal Audit with expertise within the humanitarian sector. Who are we?

Our internal audit function provides an independent and objective assurance and consulting services that are guided by the principal of adding value to improve the operations of Danish Refugee Council (DRC).

The internal audit team assists DRC in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the organisation's risk management, control structures, and governance processes.

About the job

As Head of Internal Audit you report functionally to the Audit Committee and administratively to the Secretary General. You will communicate and interact directly with the Audit Committee, and the Secretary General. The Internal Audit Function currently covers DRC’s international activities. Depending on profile of the new Head of Internal audit, it may be considered to extend to cover DRC globally.

The scope of internal auditing encompasses, but is not limited to, the examination and evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of the organisation's governance, risk management, and internal control processes in relation to the organisation's defined goals and objectives. Internal control objectives considered by internal audit include:

  • Consistency of operations or programs with established objectives and goals and effective performance.
  • Effectiveness and efficiency of operations and employment of resources.
  • Compliance with significant policies, plans, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Reliability and integrity of management and financial information processes, including the means to identify, measure, classify, and report such information.
  • Safeguarding of assets.

As Head of Internal Audit you will be responsible for the team of internal auditors and responsible for creating results through your team. You will be responsible for:

  • People management of direct reports.
  • Further develop the internal audit function
  • Annual internal audit plan and participation in audit committee meetings
  • Reporting and monitoring
  • Periodic assessments, including self-assessment
  • Quality assurance and improvement programme that covers all aspects of the internal audit activities
  • Any other duties as agreed with the Audit Committee

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a desire to work within the international humanitarian sector. As a manager you maintain a positive, collaborative and enabling work environment, ensure positive staff management, including proactive staff capacity building and ensure performance reviews are conducted.

You will have knowledge of risk based audit methodology and a range of auditing techniques that can be applied in varying contexts. Your ability to communicate effectively and be sensitive to different cultures and ways of working will be highly valued.

All staff are expected to demonstrate DRC’ five core competencies:

  • Demonstrating integrity: Upholding and promoting the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct in relation to DRC’s values and Code of Conduct, including safeguarding against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Five (5) plus years of audit experience in public accounting or internal/external audit OR extensive experience in operational/ compliance functions
  • Degree in Audit, Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Experience in delivering training presentations/workshops
  • Good analytical, interpersonal, time management, research, and communications skills
  • Good working knowledge of one or several accounting software packages (Navision, Microsoft Dynamics, Sun, PeopleSoft, SAP, QuickBooks, MYOB etc.)
  • Professional fluency in English
  • Willingness to travel to insecure environments and at relatively short notice (for periods of 1-3 weeks per trip)
  • Experience working for an INGO

Desirable

  • Previous working experience as a manager, ideally managing a team across different locations
  • Professional audit certifications (ACCA, CPA, CIA, CISA) finalised or in advanced stage of certification process
  • High proficiency in French
  • Knowledge of other languages relevant to DRC operations

We offer

Contract length: Permanent

Work place: Borgergade 10, 1300 Copenhagen K

Start date: As soon as possible

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and and the “Lederaftale” (management agreement). Please note that this is a national position for which local (Danish) terms and conditions apply.
