Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Global Head of Safety to ensure a continued development of global policies and frameworks enabling the global network of safety advisors and DRC managers to engage proactively on safety matters.

Who are we?

Global Safety is part of the HQ-Operations that is overall responsible for developing and maintaining operational policies, tools, safety protocols and regulatory frameworks at a global scale, and is responsible for supporting the structured implementation of the tools, frameworks, and policies.

The Global Head of Safety will lead a team of highly qualifies global specialists at DRC HQ and have technical responsibilities towards the global network of Safety Advisors in the organisation.

About the job

The primary goal of this position is to ensure that unified, specialized, coordinated and focused safety management is established and provided to DRC with an aim to reduce the risks posed to DRC staff and DRC operations, facilitate access and to protect DRC employees, property, environmental health, information, physical assets and business continuity.

As the Global Head of Safety, you ensure a continued development of global policies and frameworks enabling the global network of safety advisors and DRC managers to engage proactively on safety matters.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Management

  • Management of the Safety Unit team in DRC HQ.
  • Management of the global network of regional safety advisors ensuring a coordinated support to DRC operations dealing with situations of acute insecurity
  • Develop long-term strategies for safety programs in support of DRC overall strategy promoting increased efficiencies and technological innovations.

Operational support

  • Engagement in global analysis and responsible for producing the global annual safety and access strategic report
  • Keep track of strategic safety priorities with key donors and advise regional operations accordingly
  • Maintain a network/ group of safety advisors available for global substitution
  • Be a permanent member on the gate B CoC intake committee. Engage when relevant in conducting and documenting global investigation
  • Be responsible for an aligned approach with HR on Duty of Care for all DRC staff (redress measures)

Technical support

  • Ensure that high quality safety and risk management training, events and learning initiatives are provided across the organization
  • Ensure a comprehensive induction of the Regional Safety Coordinator
  • Substitution on regional safety and access plans and regional incident management

External relations

  • Engage in relevant external safety thematic fora and make sure that DRC executives, regional management and the global Safety network have updated and relevant knowledge about debates and developments within safety, and health and be part of strategic alliances.
  • Build network with the UN and global INGO counterparts.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect the following:

  • 7-10 years of experience in a responsible corporate safety capacity. This requirement could be met with a combination of specific academic training and professional work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within the humanitarian field incl. leadership experience
  • University degree or equivalent in relevant discipline.
  • Ability to travel regularly
  • Excellent communication skills in English are required. Understanding French and Spanish is an advantage.
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • High degree of organizational awareness and negotiating skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment

We offer

Workplace: The position is placed in DRC HQ in Copenhagen

Start date: As soon as possible

The position is temporary for two years, as the current Global Head of Safety has taken on a position in another part of DRC.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Lederaftalen - the agreement between Dansk Arbejdsgiverforening and Lederne (agreement for managers). This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
