In Biostatistics we are part of leading product development worldwide from early development phases to product introduction and life cycle management. We ensure medical and scientific documentation for clinical submissions and authorities while ensuring that the process lives up to uniform global standards, regulations, and business ethics.
About the department
The Global Biostatistics function currently consists of almost 300 statisticians and statistical programmers globally and a total of 205 employees are located in Denmark. Biostatistics has two sites in Denmark, one in Søborg and one in Aalborg – in total appr. 140 employees in Søborg and 65 in Aalborg.
The role is based either in Søborg or in Aalborg, depending on the preferred candidate’s preference.
The Søborg site currently consists of eight Biostatistics’ departments and the Aalborg site consists of three. All support across our development portfolio within Diabetes, Obesity, RD&AT, NASH, cardio vascular and other serious chronic diseases. Novo Nordisk has a broad R&D pipeline and majority of our statistical work is done in-house, thus we offer a wide variety of statistical challenges and provide a strong scientific community. Currently the department is also closely involved in analysis of a variety of special data types e.g. biomarkers, images etc.
Biostatistics is a very dynamic area which cooperates with many different professionals across the global organisation and having Biostatistics colleagues in India, USA, China and Japan as well as our outsourcing partners in India and Europe. Thus, we have a global and diverse environment where you need to use your cross-cultural awareness and leadership skills.
The position
As a leader you will report to one of the two Vice Presidents (VP) of Biostatistics and be a member of a Biostatistics VP leadership team. You will be overall responsible for leading a team of highly engaged statisticians and statistical programmers across seniority levels. You will together with your counterparts in Søborg, Aalborg as well as US and India, be overall responsible for statistical deliverables used for marketing authorisation of new drugs as well as variation applications, meta-analyses and support to marketing on marketed drugs.
You will be responsible for motivating and securing competency development of the team members. Ensuring quality in the work, continuous improvements of the team and process development will be essential in the job. You will also be responsible for the department budget and you will work in close collaboration with leaders across others Development functions as well as other Biostatistics departments to ensure a well-functioning global organisation.
It is important that you are challenging the current processes and are embracing new methods and working styles. Through empowerment you are utilising the full potential of the employees in both the department and Biostatistics as an area.
As the Department Manager you will meet with both teams in Aalborg and Søborg, so travelling should be expected on average 1-2 days a month. Furthermore, travel abroad should be expected 1-2 times per year.
Qualifications
Either, you have a strong leadership track record combined with innovation and change management or you have knowledge of biostatistics or statistical programming combined with significant leadership talent and a keen interest in driving innovation. As a minimum, you have several years of experience as project or line manager and preferably knowledge of drug development and knowledge of the Biostatistics deliveries in a R&D organisation within the pharmaceutical industry. You have experience with supervision and mentoring of staff. Furthermore, you have experience with working in international and diverse professional groups.
Naturally, you set direction, lead and motivate your team and have strong stakeholder management capabilities. As a person you strive with a high level of complexity and have solid problem-solving capabilities. You are not afraid of working risk-based and have the courage to try out different solutions to daily operations and challenge the already established processes. You have excellent collaboration and communication skills; you can collaborate at any organisational level and are fluent in English.
