The position
We are expanding into new therapeutic areas, and efficient predictive in vitro screening tools are needed to facilitate high-throughput screening of novel RNAi-based concepts, peptides, proteins, and therapeutic antibodies.
In your role as a Principal Scientist, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and conducting advanced and robust cellular- and immuno-based assays to aid the selection of drug candidates. In close collaboration with scientists in global cross-functional teams, you will be a key driver of design and execution of medium- or high-throughput screening assays. You will also contribute to maturing and advancing scientific ideas into projects within different therapeutic areas.
In your daily work, you will collaborate closely with project teams, department scientists, and laboratory technicians. The research and discovery work are organized in multidisciplinary cross-functional project teams, and you will represent the department across a range of projects. The working environment in Global Research Technologies is dynamic and innovative and involves interactions with colleagues from research sites in Denmark, USA, UK, and China, with an excellent opportunity to establish a strong global scientific network.
Qualifications
You hold a PhD in cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, or a related discipline and have more than 5 years of post-degree experience. Research experience from the pharmaceutical industry with preclinical development of biologics and/or other molecular formats, including a track record of fertilizing the early pipeline, is advantageous for this position.

About the Department
Screening and Bioassay Technology is part of Global Research Technologies at Novo Nordisk located in Måløv (Copenhagen, Denmark).
We specialize in the design and execution of a variety of medium- and high-throughput screening assays with relevant biological read-outs and with a strong focus on automation and digitalization. Delivery of high-quality in vitro assay data to support the identification of drug candidates with desired functionalities is a cornerstone in most research projects and our core mission.
Our international team consists of 11 scientists, 7 technicians, and 1 student. You will be part of a high-performing, multidisciplinary team exploring and identifying new treatment options for diabetes, obesity, NASH, cardiovascular and kidney disease, hemophilia, and other rare blood and endocrine disorders.

- Solid experience in design, development, and execution of cellular in vitro functional assays based on the use of both immortalized and primary cells.
- Assays of relevance comprise but are not limited to, molecular pharmacology assays detecting signal transduction, reporter gene assays, high-content imaging, flow cytometry, Ca2+ signaling, FRET assays, and qPCR.
- Expertise in developing and applying a broad range of mode of action reflective cell- or enzyme-based assays that can support multiple stages of the biopharmaceutical development pipeline.
- Experience with liquid handlers (e.g., Biomek and Tecan) and automation of data management for efficient screening processes.
- Programming skills (e.g., R or Python) are an advantage.
