Novo Nordisk is expanding a world-class research team within Obesity & Liver Disease Research, and is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to drive our efforts in the discovery of novel therapeutic molecules in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
About the department
Liver Disease Research is a cross-disciplinary department in Global Obesity & Liver Disease Research, dedicated to research within the cardio-metabolic field, in particular non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). As part of Novo Nordisk’s strategy within chronic diseases, this department has a focus towards building a state-of-the-art research platform, target identification, validation and pre-clinical evaluation of novel treatment options. Currently, the department consists of 16 employees of whom 8 are Research Scientists on various levels. We work in a flexible, collaborative, and cross-functional setting, while keeping focus on quality and goals in an informal environment.
The Position
The candidate is expected to contribute to innovation by identifying and validating new therapeutic agents to treat NASH with a focus on the fibrotic liver. Your scientific responsibilities will include the translation of scientific questions into experimental design, execution, coordination, and reporting of in vivo studies. You will be responsible to develop and establish rodent models, mechanistic endpoints, and novel technologies with relevance to human disease. As part of project teams, you will be driving the pharmacological and biological analyses in accordance with project goals and focus on human translatability. With your background in fibrosis, you will evaluate novel concepts and give input to relevant read-outs, establish ex vivo and human in vitro assays in order to investigate the mode-of-action of novel drug candidates. Depending on your seniority, you will be guiding 1-2 laboratory technicians to conduct in vivo and ex vivo experiments in-house or in collaboration with CROs, and proactively troubleshoot to find solutions independently. Maintaining a broad scientific network is a key to success and you are expected to foster and sustain the necessary external collaborations. You are expected to present your results to project teams and management using strong communication skills, and staying on top of the scientific literature within NASH and fibrosis.
Qualifications
You hold a Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology, Fibrosis Research or related discipline with at least 2-3 years of post-doc or industrial experience. You have hands-on experience conducting in vivo studies relevant to fibrosis and human disease, have a proven scientific track-record and a thorough understanding of fibrosis, and preferentially knowledge of liver pathophysiology in humans and rodents. Broad experience with various techniques such as primary cell isolation/culture, flow cytometry, imaging techniques, and functional assays to study fibrogenesis and extracellular matrix remodelling is an advantage. You are a self-motivated team player with strong communication skills as you will be responsible for appropriate reporting and communication of scientific results. You enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams and working independently on multiple programs in a fast-paced environment. You are goal oriented with a focus on moving projects and have strong analytical skills.
