About the department
The Microbial Expression Department (MiE ) is part of Recombinant Technologies and has microbial strain engineering and protein production as core tasks. The primary responsibility of MiE is to ensure timely support to our research projects with a broad range of protein expression technologies, strain optimization tools and production strains.

The position
We work on enablement and optimization of expression from microbial hosts and protein production for our projects. We apply an array of technologies ranging from molecular biology, robotics, strain characterization, protein purification and analysis methods.
The focal areas of this position are within high-throughput small scale protein variant generation and production as well as strain characterization. You will work across the department and will interact closely with colleagues from around the area to devise and execute appropriate experimental strategies for characterizing microbial strains and for generating protein variants for various research projects. Professionally, you thrive with working with both routine tasks and complex problem solving.
The job is a three-year temporary position.

Ability to program liquid handlers is considered an advantage.

Qualifications
The preferred candidate is:
- An excellent Laboratory Technician (AP Graduate in Chemical and Biotechnical Science (Laborant), Biomedical Laboratory Scientist (Bioanalytiker) or Bachelor of Chemical and Biotechnical Technology and Food Technology (Professionsbachelor i laboratorieteknologi)).
- You have experience from the high-throughput protein expression and microbial strain characterization fields.
- You have insight into small scale cultivation of microorganisms and their molecular biology (preferably yeasts).
- You have experience with applying liquid handlers (e.g., Beckman Coulter BioMek, Dynamic Devices Lynx, Tecan), colony pickers and cultivation equipment and have an interest in learning how to operate and maintain equipment that is new to you.
- You take a practical approach to your job and preferably you have experience from research.
- You are collaborative, service minded and take pride in delivering and documenting your results timely and thorough, while knowing that your results are defining for the delivery pace from our department.
- You have solid experience with IT-based DNA design work and sequence evaluation, data handling, and reporting as this is a central part of the job.
- You can work in diverse and cross functional teams with multiple nationalities and can communicate in English on a professional level both written and verbally.
Ability to program liquid handlers is considered an advantage.
