The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University - an international top-100 University - seeks a candidate, characterized by excellence and vision in their research, for an Associate Professor position in Mathematical Analysis.
The position is open from 1 January 2020.
The Department of Mathematics currently employs 18 permanent scientific staff members in the traditional pure mathematical disciplines, Algebra, Analysis, Geometry and Topology, as well as 12 people in stochastics. Within Mathematical Analysis, the department currently has research activities within operator algebras, harmonic analysis, representation theory of Lie groups, analytic number theory, and analytical aspects of mathematical physics.

While the assessment committee will evaluate the overall scientific achievements of all shortlisted candidates, they can only be expected to look into individual scientific results among those contained in publications submitted with the application.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.
Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

- a strong record of original scientific contributions in analysis in general, and in particular within harmonic analysis and representation theory of Lie groups.
- a documented ability and interest in taking responsibility for teaching mathematics in the regular courses at the department, and also to e.g. physics students and engineering students.
- a track record in obtaining external funding for research activities .
The successful candidate is expected to:
- participate in and drive research through international contacts
- teach and develop mathematics courses (in Danish after some period) for natural and technical sciences.
- supervise students at all levels from Bachelor to PhD
- build and sustain a research group around her/himself through external funding
