The Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health at Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for one or more positions as Associate Professor in the fields of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, General Practice, Nursing, Public Health and Sports Science.
Employment will be from February 1, 2020 or as soon as possible after this date. The position(s) are permanent and full-time, but part-time employment is negotiable.
The Department of Public Health
As Associate Professor at Department of Public Health, you will be part of an ambitious and internationally recognised department, where we work together to promote public health through research into areas that can prevent, treat and alleviate disease. We are involved in broad collaboration both internally and externally. We share our knowledge with citizens, decision-makers, business and industry, practitioners and other researchers – in municipalities, in the regions and both nationally and internationally.
The Department of Public Health contributes to or is responsible for teaching in medicine, public health science, sport science and nursing. At the department you will have approx. 200 colleagues, including 90 academic staff members and a corresponding number of PhD students. We are situated at two university campuses in Aarhus and at one campus in Emdrup, Copenhagen (only nursing). You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.
Your job responsibilities
As Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health, you will contribute to the department’s research and teaching environment and to the faculty’s overall research strategy. You will contribute to the development of the department both independently and in collaboration with others via your research of high international quality. You ensure that your teaching maintains a high academic and didactic standard. You possess excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network, which you are able to bring into play in your contribution to the academic development of Aarhus University and its profile both nationally and internationally.
Your main tasks will include:
You will refer to one of the department’s three Section Managers.
Your competences
You have an excellent track record in research within Biostatistics, Epidemiology, General Practice, Nursing, Public Health or Sports Science, and you have established yourself as a prominent researcher.
You have considerable experience with teaching, examinations and development of courses/programmes in subjects relevant for the teaching at the Department. You see opportunities in collaborating with the existing strong research groups at Aarhus University, and you can either document synergy between own research and existent research at the Department or document a potential to establish an independent research group.
You have broad international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders. You have a documented ability to attract significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.
As a colleague, you are dedicated and possess excellent communication skills. You are able to build relationships based on trust with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner. As a supervisor you are competent, inspiring, supportive and responsible.
You are ready to take a joint responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges courses in Danish.
In order to be assessed as qualified for an Associate Professor position, you must meet these academic criteria.
Shortlisting will be used. In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the extent, quality and originality of your body of international scientific publications, including contributions to further developing the subject area in question.
