We are strengthening our spray drying group and are therefore hiring a Development Scientist for a 2-year temporary position in the CMC API Development area.

If you find spray drying and freeze-drying projects exciting and inspiring, and you have knowledge of these unit operations from previous industrial jobs or academia, you may be our new spray drying development scientist.

About the department

As part of Novo Nordisk’s R&D organization, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC Development) makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. CMC Development is organized in six areas of expertise supporting the entire drug development pipeline. The present position is situated in the CMC API Development area. Our area is responsible for developing technologies and processes for the commercial manufacturing of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) in our new medicines. Currently, CMC API Development employs 190 people, all located in Denmark.

You will join the Downstream Development department (Bagsværd), where we develop the purification processes for manufacturing new active pharmaceutical proteins and peptides for future diabetes and obesity drugs. We do so in close collaboration with our stakeholder’s formulation and research units as well as the pilot facilities manufacturing the proteins used for toxicological and clinical trials.

The position

As a spray and freeze-drying development scientist you will be responsible for planning, executing and analyzing laboratory experiments, but also upscale, transfer and support to our pilot facilities and CMO’s are an integrated part of the job. The analytical equipment includes UPLC, TGA and SEM. The work is evaluated and reported in electronic laboratory notebooks and development reports.

Systematic evaluation and presentation of process data obtained from laboratory work and from pilot facilities is a natural part of the job as is risk assessment of the process parameters. The progress of the process development work will be discussed in the project groups, which you will be a part of.

Qualifications

You hold a scientific academic degree in chemical engineering, biochemistry, pharmaceutical, Dairy, Food or other relevant discipline at master level or above. As the position requires that you understand the basic principles of spray drying and freeze drying, it is preferable that you have practical experience from the industry or academia within these fields. Work proficiency in both Danish and English is preferable for the position.

Furthermore, we expect that you have an innovative mindset enabling you to convert theory to practical solutions. You have excellent communication and cooperation skills and you thrive in a dynamic environment, where daily collaboration with multiple stakeholders is essential to your success. The position requires the ability to define and perform tasks independently with a strong commitment to drive complicated development project tasks towards a common goal.
