The Department of Strategy and Innovation (SI) at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is looking for a postdoc researcher. The postdoc position is time-limited to 2 years and connected to the project “Tax (dis)honesty in the digital economy: The case of Airbnb in Denmark” funded by the ROCKWOOL Foundation. Expected starting date is 1 January 2022.
About Copenhagen Business School and the Department of Strategy and Innovation:
Copenhagen Business School has the status of an independent university and has more than 20,000 students and app. 450 full-time professors (assistant/associate/full). CBS is thus one of the largest business schools in Northern Europe, covering a wide range of business-related academic fields. The Department of Strategy and Innovation (SI) is one of 11 departments within CBS. The department has about 50 faculty members, currently including 20 professors, 20 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, in addition to 8 postdocs and 19 PhD students.
SI’s ambition is to host an internationally leading environment for research and teaching in strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business. The theoretical foundation for research in these areas is eclectic and cross-disciplinary, combining theoretical insights from strategy, international business, organizational theory, economics, sociology, psychology, and economic geography. Methodologically, the department places considerable emphasis on the solid application of empirical methods, featuring surveys, register data, experiments, and qualitative studies. Faculty members have published in top academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Management Science, Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Research Policy, among others.
About the project:
This project intends to study tax evasion on platform markets within the empirical setting of the short-term rental market in Denmark. The project will combine digital trace data with detailed microdata from Denmark Statistics to investigate tax honesty on digital peer-to-peer platforms and potential heterogeneous effects across individuals. Furthermore, the team will investigate the effects of information-sharing agreements between platforms and tax authorities.
The postdoc position is a two-year position with 100% research obligations (i.e. no teaching obligations), starting in January 2022. The postdoc researcher will work closely with Vera Rocha, Tom Grad, and Jörg Claussen from SI.
The project will mostly rely on empirical methods, namely on Danish micro-data. The ideal candidate for the position will be a recent PhD graduate with strong technical skills in data management and econometrics and with deep interest in these research questions.
