A combined position as Clinical Professor (50%) or Clinical Associate Professor (50%) depending on qualifications and as Consultant (50%) is vacant at the Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and at the Department of General Surgery, Hospital of Southern Jutland respectively.
The position is for a five-year period with the possibility of extension.
The academic position
The clinical professor will be appointed at the Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU. The position will be within general surgery, and focus areas could include, yet are not limited to, robot surgery, hernia surgery and surgical stress. Trans-sectional research and collaboration is expected.
Areas of responsibility
The clinical professor will be responsible for development and evaluation of new surgical methods within robot surgery and hernia surgery. The clinical professor will also be responsible for developing new strategies for collaboration with other key stakeholders in the areas surgical stress and endocrine metabolism during and after surgery.
Additionally, the clinical professor is expected to teach and mentor post-docs, PhD-students, and undergraduate students, as well as to maintain and develop national and international contacts and secure funding. Participation in assessment work is part of the position. Moreover, profiling this research area in the public eye will be an important task.
Research activity, network and collaboration
The clinical professor is expected to increase research activity and to expand collaboration with other researchers at hospitals in the Region of Southern Denmark, at SDU, in the rest of Denmark and internationally.
The clinical position
The clinician will be appointed as consultant at the Department of General Surgery at the Hospital of Southern Jutland. The consultant must fulfil the requirements and responsibilities of a consultant in a department of surgery.
Qualifications
The successful applicant has a PhD or equivalent post-graduate research qualification and must be qualified as a consultant in general surgery. Additionally, the applicant must have substantial skills in both clinical aspects and research within the field of general surgery. The preferred candidate has demonstrated skills and scientific achievements within this area, is able to motivate, supervise and has proven research management skills and good collaborations abilities. Danish is not required initially, however, should be mastered within the first 2 years of employment.

Acknowledged as a high-quality research and education institution, the Hospital of Southern Jutland is now a University Hospital in the Region of Southern Denmark. From 2022 the scientific personnel will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students at in the Hospital of South West Jutland in Esbjerg.
The Department of Regional Health Research supports research in relation to the person as a whole, the good life and the more common diseases, makes out a platform for scientists and educators and builds a bridge between University of Southern Denmark, Region of Southern Denmark, Region Zealand, the hospitals in the two regions and the patient. The department focuses on the continuity of patient care across sectors, hospitals and specialist fields
