IRS-Lillebælt Hospital, Department of Regional Health Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a position as Professor in End-of-Life Care (40%) and as nurse in Anaesthesiology or Intensive Care (40-60%) at the Departments of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lillebælt Hospital.

The position is equally divided between the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Vejle and Middelfart Hospitals, and the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Kolding Hospital.

The posts are considered as one entity. The professorship is limited to a five-year period with possibility of extension.

The Departments of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care focus on a range of research areas with end-of-life care being one of them.

Professor

The new professor is expected to play a leading role in end-of-life care but also to participate in other areas of research in cooperation with research staff from all professions within own specialty and from other clinical specialties and departments at Lillebælt Hospital. Especially in relation to end-of-life care, the applicant will be expected to master a high level of scientific cooperation, nationally as well as internationally. The applicant will be expected to lead this area of research and to represent the field in public, and by agreement to undertake ad hoc tasks for public authorities. This may include clarification reports or health services research ordered and paid by for example Danish Health Authority or the Region of Southern Denmark.

The patient perspective holds high priority at Lillebælt Hospital and an applicant with research interest in how Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care can contribute to this field will be preferred.

Research supervision and teaching

The position involves teaching at the faculty's pre- and postgraduate programs of study, including the PhD programs and supervision of PhD students. The tasks will be within the Health Sciences PhD program and the scope of teaching will be agreed in connection with the appointment. The applicant will be expected to have teaching qualifications as an associate professor or equivalent. Additionally, participation in assessment work will be part of the position.

The clinical position

The applicant must have expertise in one of the fields within the Departments of Anaesthesiology and Intensive care. The clinical work will be defined by agreement between the heads of departments and the applicant.

Expectations and qualifications

Potential applicants must be certified as nurses and will be expected to have

  • results in end-of-life care research as documented by a list of publications
  • a documented dynamic upward research curve
  • a documented ability to raise funds
  • a documented capability of inter-professional and intersectoral collaboration
  • a documented capability of national and international research collaboration
  • documented popular science activities
  • academic degree (PhD or DMSc)
  • experience as research supervisor.

Documented leadership experience will be an advantage. Tasks regarding management and administration will be expected to account for approximately 10 % of the university working hours.

Salary and terms of employment

The successful applicant for the professor position will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment for both the professorship and the clinical part of the position.

  • information on national and international research collaboration and collaborations with researchers in other disciplines and sectors
  • a research plan detailing the candidate’s ideas and plans for her/his future research work.
