This Postdoc position will be associated with two separate projects: a research project on the antibiotics resistance genes (ARGs) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) from the early life human microbiome in humans; the other research project on the breast microbiome associated with capsular contracture. The first study aims to find the influences of antibiotics use, various environmental factors on ARGs, MGEs, mobile ARGs and the co-occurrence of ARGs and MGEs from the early life human microbiome. This project is part of the Copenhagen Prospective Study on Asthma in Childhood (COPSAC) and aims to characterize the human microbiome in early life and elucidate any correlations with the development of disease later in life.
The second study aims to use bacterial sequencing analysis and fluorescent in-situ hybridization on samples from the implant pockets of patients with prosthetic breast implants to determine if the breast microbiome in breast implant pockets is specific to capsular contracture (a complication to breast reconstruction with prosthetic implants). We wish to characterize the breast microbiome associated with capsular contracture and the breast microbiome associated with no capsular contracture (i.e. a potential beneficial/preventive microbiome). The postdoc position is for 2 years, and is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The projects will be carried out at the University of Copenhagen – Section of Microbiology, Department of Biology, the COPSAC Center, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital, University of Copenhagen and Rigshospitalet where you will engage in teamwork within the group.
The position is to be filled 1.7.2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious researcher with strong experience in molecular lab work, the analysis of 16S rRNA gene Amplicon sequencing and microbial metagenomics data. Applicants should have the following qualifications:
