Department of Screening and Bioassay Technology has an opening for a talented and motivated Associate Scientist with a solid background within molecular and cellular biology methodologies and with a passion for building mammalian cell-based in vitro assays for drug discovery.
About the Department
Screening and Bioassay Technology is part of Global Research Technologies at Novo Nordisk and is located in Maaloev in the Greater Copenhagen area of Denmark. Our responsibility includes delivery of data from high quality in vitro assays to support identification of biologics drug candidates with desired functionality and reduced immunogenicity risk. Furthermore, we develop cell-based drug bioactivity assays and secure the transfer of these to CMC.
The department consists of 9 scientists and 4 technicians highly skilled in design and execution of a variety of medium and high through-put screening assays with relevant biological read-out. The Global Research organization at Novo Nordisk is organized in multidisciplinary project teams and we work in a flexible, highly collaborative and cross-functional setting.
The position
The overall objective and primary responsibility of this position is to design, establish and conduct advanced and robust cellular in vitro assays to enable the selection of drug candidates with pre-defined functional properties. Dependent on the task, you are expected to work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues within the department and across the research organization. Owing to a significant amount of laboratory-based work tasks, you will proactively identify and resolve experimental issues as well as take interest in progress of novel technologies.
You will assist in the development of novel workflows, with focus on employment of automation technologies and efficient data handling methodologies. With your expertise in molecular biology and mammalian cell-based in vitro assays you are able to critically analyze and interpret experimental screening data, activities that will be an integral part of your daily work.
Qualifications
You hold a master in molecular biology, cell biology, biomedicin or a related discipline with at least three years of experience from an industry or academic setting working with molecular biology and cellular in vitro assays. You have hands-on experience working with molecular biology methodologies as well as isolation and culture of both immortalized cell lines and primary cells. Assays of relevance comprise reporter gene assays and molecular pharmacology assays detecting signal transduction, internalization, migration, proliferation and cytokine release.
Know-how and expertise in flow cytometry will be considered an advantage. Likewise, experience with automated or semi-automated instrumentation to secure efficient screening processes is a plus.
As a person you are proactive and engaged with a positive attitude to new ideas and people. You enjoy working in teams to share knowledge, have an ability to build networks and possess good communication skills.
