The Unit of Neurobiology Research, Department of Molecular Medicine, invites applications for a full-time associate professor position in neuroscience and experimental neuropharmacology.
We seek individuals who have research expertise that complement existing focus areas of the Department.
Major research areas of the department are stem cells and glial biology with relevance to clinical and experimental studies of stroke, demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease.
Research profile and tasks
Preferred areas of research should supplement existing strengths within the Unit, but applicants must boost the area of experimental neuroscience and neuropharmacology.
The successful candidate will hold a strong publication record within experimental, translational or basic neuroscience research.
Close collaborations are expected within the institute, and with the nearby Odense University Hospital (OUH).
OUH is the main hospital in the region (population of 1,5 million) responsible for diagnoses and treatments within all clinical areas.
Establishment of strong international collaborations of benefit to the unit as well as the department is expected as well.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in neurobiology or related disciplines, an M.D., or equivalent; and must have proven postdoctoral training, formal pedagogical training (“adjunktpædagogikum” or equivalent) and supervising experience, and must have demonstrated significant research through publications.
Special consideration will be given to candidates that demonstrate - by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals - a strong background in any of the themes mentioned above.
Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
Teaching commitments
The successful applicant will hold course responsibility and teach neurobiology to medical, BSc and MSc students at courses provided by the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Teaching at a high academic level is viewed as a core competence necessary for the applicant to fulfill or develop depending on entry level and prior qualifications. The candidate is expected to participate in mentoring graduate and PhD students pursuing their Master’s degree and PhD.

Danish is not required initially however, must be mastered within the first two years of employment. In cooperation with the language centre “Lærdansk”, SDU offers specialised language courses.
