In joining Maersk as Legal Counsel – Competition Law & Policy in our headquarters in Copenhagen, you will be joining a truly global, leading industry player with frequent interactions with many leading competition authorities at a time of significant change and growth ambitions across Maersk.
You will have an opportunity to work with a highly specialised and very international team of currently eight lawyers in a dynamic, challenging and truly diverse working environment.
You will be able to use and further develop your competition law expertise, being exposed to dealing with different competition law regimes across the globe, interacting with the business and supporting the team in ensuring successful approvals of M&A transactions.

As Legal Counsel you will be working mainly on competition law aspects of M&A transactions, i.e. merger filings and other merger control-related work, including advice on the relevant sections of SPAs, managing gun-jumping risks, etc.
This work will relate to all Maersk businesses, including container liner shipping, logistics, terminals and towage.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Carrying out multi-jurisdictional analyses to determine where merger control filings might be required.
• Reviewing merger related documents under competition law.
• Preparing and coordinating merger control filings including market definitions.
• Liaising with external competition counsels.
• Supporting the M&A Legal and M&A Strategy teams.
• Cooperating with and coordinating responses to competition regulators.
• Providing competition law training to employees at all levels in the organization worldwide.

A person with 4-5 years of experience in the field of competition law, with a specific focus on merger control. The ideal candidate will have:
• Competition law experience from an firm or a multinational company in a role with focus on merger control;
• A very good understanding of merger control processes in the context of M&A transactions;
• Hands-on experience with global or at least regional M&A transactions covering multiple jurisdictions;
• Experience as “lead” or at least a “co-lead” in relation to merger control filings;
• Hands-on experience in managing and coordinating filings in multiple jurisdictions.
The ideal candidate is analytical, methodical and thorough and has an ability to keep a clear mind in a busy and dynamic environment with a great variety of tasks. As you will be simultaneously supporting the team in a number of complex matters, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
The ability to interact effectively with people across business functions and to understand business needs is essential to your success. You are self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team.
As work language is English, an excellent command of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.
