Calling climate concerned sustainability and lifecycle specialists!
In Maersk, we have embarked on what some may call an impossible journey: By 2050, the greenhouse gas emissions from our fleet of container ships must be net zero.
With more than 700 ships in the fleet, Maersk is proudly the largest operator of container ships in the world. But ships need fuel, and ours burn in excess of 10 million tons of fuel oil resulting in emission of more than 30 million tons CO2 per year. That is roughly the same as a small country like Denmark, where our team is located, and illustrates the sheer scale of the transition journey ahead of us.
In the same span of time, we must also address the greenhouse gasses associated with everything else we do; from transporting goods by rail, truck or air to our warehouses, terminals and offices.
This is a huge undertaking and we need you on board to make it happen!
Are you ready?
Recently, Maersk established a dedicated Decarbonisation Team to focus, guide and steer our decorbonisation journey.
We come from different backgrounds, have different expertise but share the same passion to transform the industry. We are motivated, innovative, curious and driven by our cause to decarbonise; we work hard and have fun 😊.
It is of utmost importance that the technologies and solutions we develop and deploy are truly sustainable over their entire lifecycle and serve to address the global climate challenge without moving the emissions elsewhere in the supply chain.
So, if you know the ins and outs of lifecycle assessment, sustainability criteria and the like and you can apply your skills in depth as well as in a strategic context, look no further for your dream job.
We are looking for a lifecycle assessment specialist who can help us ensure that new innovative energy solutions, such as advanced fuels contribute to sustainable decarbonization of our industry
You will be our LCA expert and your primary work tasks will be centred around sustainability analysis and life cycle assessment of future technologies, maritime fuels and their feedstocks.
There is no silver bullet to decarbonisation of shipping, and we plan to assess a wide span of fuels and energy technologies, for which you will drive the LCAs. Therefore, we want you to lead development of LCAs for fuels and technologies together with internal and external partners, and to give well-founded recommendations based on the analysis. We are open to a variety of backgrounds and experiences, but ideally you have profound experience in LCA and 5-10 years of relevant work experience so that you can assume thought leadership in this area.
Other tasks, depending on your background and motivation, may include shaping the future maritime regulatory framework and developing plans and strategies for our journey.
We expect you to be a team player. We work as a new but already very dynamic and positive-spirited team, we share information and challenges and help each other out.
Most days, we work with both internal and a wide range of external partners, so it is important that you thrive with cross-disciplinary and cross-functional teamwork and are good at stakeholder management.
You will need drive and initiative and I’m hoping you will bring along curiosity, honesty and an open mind.
As your leader I will empower you and support you to the best of my ability. My most important tasks are to ensure you have access to the information, data and help you need to succeed in your job and help you navigate the hurdles, but also to make sure you have the possibility to learn and continuously develop.
But the most important thing for me is that you go to work happy, strike the right work-life balance and thrive in your job.
Kind regards,
Ingrid Marie
