Shipping is one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. Maersk has committed to do it anyway - can you help us?
Climate action is a strategic imperative for Maersk and we are stepping up our efforts to reduce the climate impact of our operations. The goal is ambitious – to convert the entire fleet of 700+ vessels into a fully carbon neutral fleet - as fast as possible. This is not an easy task, since the new fuels need not only to be sustainable, but also scalable as well as economically and technically viable.
We are looking for a Biofuel Manager to join our newly established Future Fuels team and help us explore, assess and mature new carbon neutral fuels for our fleet.
The future fuels team is a part of Maersk newly established Decarbonisation Group, which also covers areas like regulatory issues as well as customer engagement. Thus, you would gain insight into the broad range of challenges we face when trying to decarbonize shipping.
If you have the passion, curiosity and knowledge to join us on this journey we would love to hear from you!
We offer a unique opportunity to play a significant role in decarbonising the shipping sector – and not the least transform Maersk into a fully carbon neutral end-to-end logistic provider.
We offer a unique opportunity for personal and professional development in a Fortune 500 company. Fast growth means a steady stream of new challenges, and a constant need for new ideas, knowledge and talent to overcome them.
This makes our organisation a dynamic environment where your creativity, ambition and problem-solving skills will be put to test.
At Maersk we value the diversity of our talent and will always strive to recruit the best person for the job – we value diversity in all its forms, including but not limited to: gender, age, nationality, race, sexual orientation, disability or religious beliefs.
We are proud of our diversity and see it as a genuine source of strength for building high performing teams.
• Scouting for new promising advanced biofuels for use in our container ships
• Continuous evaluation of the state-of-the-art for advanced biofuels and new trends
• Feasibility studies of selected fuels/technologies within advanced biofuels – covering economics (energy balance), technical readiness level, sustainability, scalability and operationability (technical viability with engines, etc.)
• Dialogue and collaboration with various external advanced biofuel producers and developers
• Project management of Maersk’s own initiative of developing a lignin-alcohol fuel in collaboration with external partners
• Chemical process engineering support related to pilot production of our own lignin-alcohol fuel – incl. how to alter the process, change equipment, etc. to make the fuel a commercially viable fuel.
• Help build and maintain a long-term portfolio of sustainable fuel solutions to support the APMM decarbonization roadmap.
You are a chemical engineer, process chemist, chemist, biochemist or similar – with at least 8-10 years of relevant professional experience.
You have a thorough understanding of the chemical ‘behaviour’ of various biofuels/processes etc. and possess skills as described below:
• Deep understanding of and technical expertise within the area of advanced biofuels or similar
• Preferably experience with developing and commercialising biofuels or similar biorefinery products
• Preferably experience with advanced biofuels characterization and perhaps engine testing
• Strong project management skills
• Excellent communication skills and enjoy communicating complex matters to a wider audience. Excellent English language skills, both orally and in writing
• Thrive working in a fast-paced environment, where the ability to prioritize is key
• As a person you are analytical, structured, comfortable working with details, meticulous and outgoing
• You genuinely enjoy working in a team and contribute towards common goals
• A go-do person, who is able to generate results and help us advance on our decarbonization agenda
The number of working hours will in average be 37 hours/week.
