Ensuring quality in functional and technical design – are you the one?
We are looking for a Design Lead who will have the technical responsibility for the signalling solution in the Fjernbane Onboard project. The Fjernbane Onboard project is responsible for installing a new control system onboard the trains operating in Denmark, to enable the use of the new signalling system deployed on Banedanmark’s infrastructure.
The Danish Signalling Programme, the largest of its kind in Europe, is fully engaged replacing the old signalling system on the Danish railway with new computer-based signalling technology. The system is aligned with the European standard, European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS). Replacing the system on the entire railway, makes Denmark the first country to implement ERTMS on a national scale.
The project is supported by an international supplier base and consultants from across Europe, therefore our office language is English.
Your place of employment will be at our headquarters in central Copenhagen.
The leading technical authority on the customer side
As the technical authority you will ensure high quality in deliverables from our supplier. Your main responsibility is ensuring that our supplier is fulfilling the technical and functional requirements of the contract.
In the same vein, it is your responsibility to handle obstacles that occur in the deployment of the system together with Banedanmark’s internal and external stakeholders. You will be the main point of contact for our internal and external stakeholders for queries regarding design and engineering. Subsequently, you also ensure that an upcoming software release roadmap is adhered to and implemented in the solution.
While we are implementing the new signalling system, it is your responsibility to make the technical assessment of changes, either from the supplier or from internal or external stakeholders.
As a Design Lead your primary tasks are
The team supports you in the above-mentioned tasks, but you will have the main responsibility.
Engineer with analytical skills and commercial experience
You hold an engineering degree and have extensive expertise within ERTMS signaling. On top of that, you have experience with projects for ERTMS development and deployment on a large scale.
You are familiar with European CENELEC standards and know how they are applied in a signalling project. You also have experience with design processes, either on customer or supplier side, and you are skilled in commercial discussions on the subject.
On a more personal level, we are looking for a team player with analytical skills, a structured and detailed approach as well as good communication skills. At the same time, you can work independently and towards given tasks and deadlines.
Your English is fluent, written as well as spoken, as our office language is English and the role includes communicating with colleagues of many different nationalities.
Salary
You will be employed in relation to the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

- Conducting and arranging technical reviews of supplier deliverables
- Verifying consistency of supplier SRS with Banedanmark’s requirements
- Technical management of contract changes and change proposals
- Prioritizing and reviewing defect rectification
- Conducting and arranging inspections of supplier progress in development and engineering
- Escalating issues to management
- Leading the design team and coordinating the tasks for the team.
The team supports you in the above-mentioned tasks, but you will have the main responsibility.
