Do you have GMP experience and a solid understanding of API manufacturing based on mammalian cells, E. coli or yeast? If yes, then you may be our new Team Leader in Cultivation Pilot plant.
About the department
The position is in the department Cultivation Pilot Plants (CPP) and part of CMC API Pilots. CMC API Pilots is a part of the R&D organisation, that manufactures and controls new drug substance candidates for the development portfolio at Novo Nordisk.
CPP is a department that cultivates and purifies proteins and peptides, under GMP, for use in clinical and non-clinical trials. The department consists of two separate production facilities with four production lines as well as two cell bank facilities. You will join approx. 80 colleagues working in different teams (cultivation, recovery, support and cell bank teams). In the department we are working with various technologies and equipment dependant on whether the platform is yeast, E. coli or mammalian cells and how the recovery process is designed (i.e. homogenisation, centrifugation, filtration, chromatography etc.). In addition to pilot production for pre-clinical and clinical studies, CPP also produces biopharm products to market in campaigns. For other new medical product candidates, processes and knowledge are transferred to Product Supply before marketing. Lean is a very central part of the work and the mindset in the department.
The department is located in Bagsværd, Copenhagen, Denmark.
The position
You will lead a cultivation team with 6 professionals and specialists as well as 11 (soon 14) technicians. Your team has a responsibility for collection and cultivation of mammalian cells, E. coli and yeast on 4 lines, where typically 2 are active at a time, and for delivering the output to the recovery team placed in the same department. The position involves close collaboration with stakeholders both in R&D and in Product Supply to ensure continuous development and knowledge-sharing.
As team leader, you set direction for your team by being approachable and communicating clearly and effectively both with the team and with your stakeholders. You ensure that your team lives up to project and organisational goals, while ensuring the employees' well-being. You do so by aligning the team’s necessary deliveries and allocating the resources in your team accordingly. Additionally, you motivate the team to share knowledge and collaborate.
You will join a growing and dynamic department and you will be a part of the management team of Cultivation Pilot Plants, consisting of 5 team leaders and a Director. In this job you will have opportunities to grow personally and professionally by developing your leadership competencies while working in both a conventional steel facility and also in a single use facility for mammalian cell cultivation and recovery. You can look forward to exciting projects covering the oral product portfolio as well as being involved in various investment initiatives and projects such as redesigning the production facility.
Qualifications
You hold a degree, Bachelor, Masters or PhD, within Cell science/technology, Biochemical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy or similar. You have minimum 2 years of people leadership experience and have had success setting direction, motivating and developing teams in a similar position.

You demonstrate strong communication skills, you take responsibility for developing others and you are keen on inspiring and motivating your employees. Further, you think and above and beyond your own area and you promote knowledge sharing. You thrive in a high-pace environment, you like to challenge status quo and you see Lean as a natural part of your daily work. Lastly, you master both English and a Scandinavian language.
