Leveraging the opportunities of digitalisation to augment the way we work in R&D and transform the therapeutic solutions we deliver, will be a critical component to drive growth and competitiveness of Novo Nordisk over the next years. Accelerating our digitalisation agenda across R&D, we are seeking an inspirational and purpose-driven leader to spearhead our digitalisation efforts across Devices & Delivery Solutions (DDS) in R&D.
Purpose of the role:
Reporting to the Corporate Vice President of R&D Digitalisation Strategy, you will be responsible for leading the DDS organisation on their transformative digitalisation journey. As a trusted strategic advisor and technical expert, you will work with a cross-functional team of professionals in enabling the DDS organisation to deliver on the vision of driving Novo Nordisk to become the global leader in treating serious chronic diseases. Specifically, you will
- create the strategy and long-term digitalisation roadmap, clearly illustrating the business value and in close alignment with the overall R&D Digitalisation Strategy for Novo Nordisk’s drug and device portfolio
- successfully guide the DDS organisation in adopting the strategy and support DDS being a trusted partner in the drug-delivery-digital projects
- support the DDS organisation in adopting to new and improved operating models enabled by digitalisation, hereby articulating, creating and monitoring business value through digital improvements
- successfully motivate and engage a cross-functional team of technology and domain experts across DDS to prioritise and implement specific initiatives on the digitalisation roadmap
- guide the SVP of DDS and his/her staff in developing and securing approval for the right level of investments required to execute the digitalisation strategy
- manage the complex interactions between internal (eg Global IT, Product Supply, Quality and Regulatory Affairs) and external (eg partners, collaborators and regulatory authorities) stakeholders
- ensure alignment of the DDS digitalisation model with the rest of R&D, the manufacturing and the commercial organisations
- influence the external digitalisation environment, especially as it relates to DDS
Key responsibilities:
- Creation of the digitalisation strategy for DDS, in close collaboration with DDSMgmt
- Establish 3-5 years digitalisation roadmap in close collaboration with DDSMgmt nd internal partners, including senior leaders across the DDS organisation
- Be accountable for the portfolio of digitalisation initiatives to DDSMgmt
- Ensure execution of the digitalisation roadmap in collaboration with internal and
- external partners and act as change agent for the new ways of working
- Manage selected digitalisation projects (not limited to DDS)
- Identify synergies between initiatives and ensure alignment across initiatives, functional areas and stakeholders, eg other R&D areas, commercial, Global IT and Finance
- Develop, drive and encourage best practices of digitalisation across R&D and broader NN
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in a related engineering discipline (eg biomedical, electrical and mechanical) or computer science with 10+ years of experience in planning and executing advanced technology and informatics projects in the medical device space
- Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, with an integrated approach to designing, developing and testing fully integrated drug delivery systems
- Demonstrated domain expertise in the medical device industry, the pharmaceutical R&D value chain and the needs of patients with serious chronic diseases
- Demonstrated track record of having driven the digitalisation agenda in a medical device organisation and expertise in simplifying complex processes
- Demonstrated track record of having supported the complete medical device development, qualification and approval process
- Expertise in establishing rapid pilot programmes with scaled impact
- Thorough understanding of the due diligence and auditing process for technology and content providers. Deep understanding of the QA/QC, GxP and 21CFR11 compliance process
Other skills needed:
- Proven ability to strategise, prioritise and effectively drive an agenda
- Expertise in developing and leading strategy development processes and workshops. Expertise in design thinking methodologies is highly desirable
- Executive presence and highly developed stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to expertly navigate a complex global organisation
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure quality, timeliness and on-budget delivery
- Managerial experience with demonstrated track record of successfully managing high-performance cross-functional matrix teams in a complex organisation
- Expert negotiator with the ability to identify and resolve potential conflicts within and across teams
- Ability to differentiate between critical and non-critical activities, and to follow established processes while identifying areas for process improvements
- Attention to detail, with excellent planning, time management and organisational skills – managing and meeting deliverables
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
