We are looking for a dedicated and independent staff scientist/sequencing engineerto run our high-throughput sequencing facility from 1 July 2021 or after agreement.

The Section for GeoGenetics at the GLOBE institute offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. Headed by Prof. Eske Willerslev, the GeoGenetics Sequencing Core Facility has been producing data for world-leading research group in ancient genomics for over a decade.

Your job
The overall responsibilities are the administering, and developing our high-throughput Illumina sequencing workflow, including, planning of sample flow, QC and sequencing, and participating in lab work. The work is conducted in close collaboration with staff technicians and other members of the scientific staff.

The tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Responsibility for the daily operation of NGS laboratory infrastructure.
  • Responsibility for coordinating activities in the production pipeline.
  • Responsibility for quality control of sequencing data and transfer to users.
  • Responsibility for maintaining and developing lab systems e.g. lab protocols, IT infrastructure, instruments, LIMS, ELN, website.
  • Technical support for lab users and customers of the sequencing services.
  • Follow the technological development.
  • Ad hoc R&D projects.

Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic staff scientist with the following competencies and experience:

  • Relevant academic degree (e.g. MSc) within bioscience, or engineering, specialized in molecular biology, biochemistry, or another relevant topic.
  • Extensive experience with general molecular biology and preferably aDNA wet lab procedures, preferably with experience with automated laboratory workflows.
  • Basic knowledge on bioinformatics workflows, Linux and NGS data analysis.
  • An independent, rational and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
  • Self-motivated and genuinely interested in high-throughput sequencing applications.
  • highly organized personality with strong attention to detail with demonstrated skills in troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and (optionally) Danish.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the GeoGenetics Sequencing Core, at Bartholinsgade 2, 1356 K, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include molecular biology laboratories and dedicated clean lab facilities for aDNA as well as the core facility for high-throughput DNA sequencing.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as ‘staff scientist’ (AC-TAP) is a full-time permanent position. Starting date is 1 July 2021 or after agreement. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
