We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for a 2 1/2 -year (30 month) position to commence on 1.9.2021
The position will entail a combination of electrophysiology, protein engineering and spectroscopy to decipher the molecular function of the sodium leak channel.

Our research
The project will focus on the function and gating of the human sodium leak channel. The project is part of a highly interdisciplinary effort to elucidate the molecular function of the sodium leak channel complex. The work requires interfacing with a number of national and international collaborators and is based in the Pless laboratory, which provides dynamic and diverse research environment focused on the functional, structural and pharmacological investigation of ion channels. The group has a balanced gender and age composition, incl numerous international researchers from a variety of backgrounds.
Your job
We strive to conduct world-class ion channel research using cutting-edge technologies. Your tasks would include electrophysiology (both patch-clamp and two-electrode voltage clamp electrophysiology); chemical biology (incorporation of non-canonical amino acids via non-sense suppression and semi-synthesis); spectroscopic approaches (such as fluorometry and FRET) and molecular biology (PCR, site-directed mutagenesis, chimera generation).

The place of employment is at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories at the Center for Biopharmaceuticals.
Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 2 1/2 years (30 months). Starting date is 1.9.2021
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,600 DKK/ approx. 4,650 Euro (February 2021-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of December 11, 2019.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in ion channel research or closely related areas
- You are highly experienced in electrophysiology (patch clamp and two-electrode voltage clamp), molecular biology, cell culture, biochemistry, spectroscopy (fluorometry and FRET), non-canonical amino acid incorporation and protein-engineering
- You have an active interest in how voltage and ligands impact ion channel structure and function, also with regards to their interactions with auxiliary proteins
- You have at least one first-author publications in a leading international journal
- Outstanding communication skills and ability to work in teams
- Excellent English skills written and spoken
Desirable experience and skills:
- First-author publications of primary research projects in high-impact journals, in addition to reviews or protocols
- Proficiency in R and python for data analysis
- International experience
