Do you want to take part in bringing stem cell-based therapies to patients suffering from type 1 diabetes and other serious chronic diseases? We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoc candidate to drive an exciting project and help us solve our challenges in drug product development pipelines together with an outstanding academic collaboration with Dr. Samantha Morris. Apply today and join us! The position In this postdoc position, you will be driving a project called Inferring Lineage and Perturbing Gene Regulatory Networks of Stem Cell to Beta cell differentiation granted by novoSTAR for 2 years, in collaboration with the Morris lab at Washington University in St. Louis. Therefore, you have the opportunity to spend maximum 6 months at Morris lab to gain experience and transfer knowledge. The proposed project aims to improve purity and robustness in pancreatic beta cell differentiation. We plan to use advanced biotechnology and computational methodologies to better understand cell fate decisions and to characterize the key molecular players responsible for this phenomenon. The study will utilize single-cell transcriptomics (scRNA-seq), accessible chromatin profiling (scATAC-seq), lineage tracing (CellTagging) and lineage restriction (precise genome editing) to profile cell identity, reconstruct clonal history and identify key gene regulators of differentiation into pancreatic beta cells. The results of this interdisciplinary approach will contribute to the improvement of the purity and effectiveness of cell therapy products and to the understanding of the mechanisms underlying cell differentiation. As a Postdoc, you will join a dedicated team with extensive experience in Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, beta cell differentiation and suspension culture systems. Some of your day-to-day tasks will include:
  • Leading the study and executing the project with your strong expertise in cutting-edge biotechnological methodologies
  • Working together with senior cell therapy scientists and bioinformatics specialists, under supervision of Dr. Samantha Morris and Cell Therapy research leadership team
  • Collaborating closely with our internal Cell Therapy discovery, Cell Therapy Biology and genome editing team and receiving extensive support from our bioinformatics specialists for data analysis
  • Qualifications You have a PhD in Biological sciences, biotechnology or similar fields plus experience in working with mammalian cell culture. Hands-on experience with human pluripotent stem cells in both adherent and suspension culture will be considered a big advantage. To succeed in this position, you have:
  • Robust experience with Molecular biology methods in addition to scRNA-seq / scATAC-seq library prep and Illumina sequencing
  • Hands-on experience with CRISPR-screening and ideally lineage tracing techniques
  • Preferably experience in NGS data analysis and R/Python programming
  • A “can-do” attitude and strong drive to take responsibility
  • Willingness to travel and gain experience abroad
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • On a personal level, you have a flexible and positive mindset that embraces change with a positive attitude. We highly appreciate good communication and collaboration skills to ensure a high level of knowledge sharing and a good team spirit. Furthermore, you are quality-conscious, well-organised and attentive to details.
