The Department of Public Health at Faculty of Health - Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of shared decision making and self-management support from 1 october 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term, full-time position for 12 months.

The Department of Public Health
The Department of Public Health colleagues work together to promote public health research into areas that can prevent, treat and alleviate disease. We are involved in extensive collaboration across health and academic organisations, nationally and internationally. Our work is accessible to the public, health policy makers, industry, practitioners, educators and researchers. The department has an extensive education portfolio with responsibility to teaching in medicine, public health science, sport science, optometry, nursing and health services methodology. You will be part of the DPH - Patient Involvement Interventions Research Unit, working closely with Hilary Bekker (Professor of Medical Decision Making) and Lotte Ørneborg Rodkjær (Associate Professor) who lead the Research Centre for Patient Involvement (ResCenPI) – Central Denmark Region. ResCenPI has a network of 80+ researchers carrying out projects to find evidence enabling patients, relatives, and health professionals to be involved effectively with health care of relevance to people’s everyday lives through the use of complex interventions such as Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO), Self-management Supportand Patient Decision Aid (PtDA) and Shared Decision Making(SDM). Our research guides innovation in involvement policy and practices across health care services. About the research project
This project aims to identify the views and practices of health professionals and patients towards patient involvement interventions. Over the last ten years, Aarhus University Hospital has had an extensive quality improvement project to develop SDM (e.g. PtDA and training) and self-management support (e.g. PRO and training) interventions across specialities. To support implementation of these innovative interventions, research is needed on staff views and experience of patient involvement interventions.

This project will use survey methods, both qualitative and quantitative, to explore clinical reasoning and inter-professional shared decision making across clinics managing acute and long term health conditions. This post is funded by the Research Centre of Patient Involvement – Central Denmark Region, DK.

Your job responsibilities
As Postdoc in the in the field of shared decision making and self-management your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. Your primary responsibilities are to carry out the aims of the research project, and deliver high quality outputs. The post suits an ambitious and organized team player who is able to work independently and flexibly between tasks to meet deadlines. Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Develop good relationships and regular communication with all parties involved in the project
  • Present research results through publication, presentation or other recognized outputs
  • Attend and contribute to project and ResCenPI meetings

You will report to the Head of Patient Involvement Intervention Research Unit, and ResCenPI Lead, Hilary Bekker (Professor of Medical Decision Making).

Your competences
You will have academic qualifications at PhD level, preferably within one or more of the following areas: self-management support, shared decision making, applied health research.

As a person, you are ambitious, take ownership and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English, and have experience of working across University and healthcare settings.

In order to be assessed as qualified for a Postdoc position, you must meet these academic criteria.

Terms of employment
  • Appointment as a postdoc requires academic qualifications at PhD level.
  • Further information on the appointment procedure can be found in the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities.
  • The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health.
  • The yearly base salary for a fulltime postdoc position with minimum 3 years of working experience after achieved MSc degree is DKK 486,969.17 or DKK 512,713.62 with minimum 4 years of working experience after achieved MSc degree. The base salary includes a position related supplement and pension (17.1 %). Additional supplement(s) for special qualifications can be negotiated. Authorisation supplemement(s) will be granted, if relevant for the position. Your local eligible trade union representative at Aarhus University negotiates your salary on your behalf.
  • Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
