The Department of Sociology, Environmental and Business Economics offers a position as research assistant for the period of 1.2.2010–1.9.2020. The position is primarily within a project for the Danish Maritime Fund titled “Creating Circular Economy Clusters for Sustainable Ship Recycling in Denmark”. Additionally, room for the development of research projects in the maritime and shipping area, which can form the basis for future funding application, can be included.

SEBE is part of the Faculty of Social Science and is part of Campus Esbjerg. The Department employs approx. 45 people. Research in the Department is organized in three research groups, and the announced position will be part of the Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment group (MERE).

The research of the group covers environmental and natural resource economics (see the profile of the group here.). The focus of the MERE group puts specific emphasis on economic uses of the interlinked biosphere and biophysical systems as well as risk analysis and management. Topics of research within these emphases currently focus on

  • ecosystem conservation and use;
  • marine resource use and conservation;
  • energy transitions;
  • climate regulation; and
  • intersections of technology, trade and development relating to these issues.
  • The position includes the following projects / tasks in the pipeline:


Coordinate SEBE input and work with Associate Professor Eva Roth and external collaborators on the project “Creating Circular Economy Clusters for Sustainable Ship Recycling in Denmark”.
Work with colleagues at SDU and external collaborators on developing a larger project on implementations of results from the above project (spring 2020).
Teaching exercises within the M.Sc. program in Environmental and Resource Economics.
Further, the option to develop a proposal for an industrial PhD application exists.

We expect you to have:

  • Relevant master’s degree within social sciences preferably with a focus on environmental issues.
  • An interest in research.
  • The ability to work in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment.
  • The ability to work independently and structured.
  • Good writing skills.


The Department provides teaching for degrees in Environmental and Resource Management (M.Sc.), General Business Administration and Economics (B.Sc.), Marketing, Social Media and Digitalization (M.Sc.), Sports and Event Management (B.Sc. and M.Sc.), Sociology and Cultural Analysis (B.Sc and M.Sc.), and Diploma and MBA programmes in Business Administration and Economics.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
