The centre for Quantum Mathematics at Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark seeks outstanding candidates to fill faculty positions at either the associate professor or the tenure-track assistant professor level in Quantum Mathematics with emphasis on pure mathematics with relations to quantum theory, covering both foundations as well as applications to quantum engineering.

The targeted starting date of the position is 1 August, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The initial appointment is for a period of 4 years with the prospect of a performance-based advancement to a tenured position as Associate Professor. Promotion to the tenured status will involve a review by an international review committee. If the outcome is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark.

The centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) is located at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus in Odense, Denmark, which among other activities is hosting the ERC-Synergy Grant “Recursive and Exact New Quantum Theory” with the head of QM centre Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen as Corresponding PI.

The QM centre is newly established with the ambition to create a highly international and interdisciplinary group within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics and mathematical physics. Job description

A successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research, collaborate with the world community in the field, and attract competitive external research funding. The candidate is expected to contribute significantly to QM’s excellent research and teaching environment. The candidate is expected to provide outstanding education.

We expect

The candidate must have a PhD degree in algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, algebraic topology, complex geometry, quantum topology, geometric analysis, operator algebra, number theory or mathematical physics. Candidates with a PhD degree in quantum engineering will also be considered, but it will further be required that they also have a strong mathematical background.

The candidate must further have an emerging research track in the field and evidence of excellent teaching at minimum undergraduate level (e.g. teaching evaluations).

We are seeking highly motivated candidates, who works and communicates well in an international team. The candidates must be able to carry out independent and rigorous work at top international level.

Requirements for the positions

The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree within the mentioned research area and will be expected to teach and instruct students who participate in bachelor and master courses. Likewise, the candicate is expected to contribute actively to young-researcher education through supervision of Ph.D. students and postdoctorial researchers.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting will be used, and shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide two letters-of-reference, which should be submitted directly by the references (submission instructions will be given to the relevant applicants). Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an international assessment panel.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant's qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview and a test lecture.

Conditions of employment

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
