The centre for Quantum Mathematics at the Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a number of positions as Professor in Quantum Mathematics with emphasis on pure mathematics with relations to quantum theory, covering both foundations as well as applications to quantum engineering.
The targeted starting date of the position is 1. August, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter.
The centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) is located at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus in Odense, Denmark, which among other activities is hosting the ERC-Synergy Grant “Recursive and Exact New Quantum Theory” with the head of QM centre Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen as Corresponding PI.
The QM centre is newly established with the ambition to create a highly international and interdisciplinary group within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics and mathematical physics. Job description
The successful candidate will drive internationally competitive research, collaborate with the world community in the field, and attract competitive external research funding. The candidate is expected to contribute significantly to QM’s research and teaching environment. The candidate is expected to provide outstanding education, supervise bachelor’s, master’s and PhD level students, as well as to contribute to the development of junior faculty research to high international standards.
The candidate will get the opportunity to shape this development together with the coming team and implement research-project ideas with national and international impact. Topics of interest are: Algebra, algebraic geometry, differential geometry, algebraic topology, complex geometry, quantum topology, geometric analysis, operator algebra, number theory, mathematical physics and quantum engineering.

We expect
The candidates must possess research qualifications and teaching skills corresponding to those obtained after a successful completion of a period of employment as an associate professor (or equivalent academic qualifications).
The candidates must have a PhD degree in pure mathematics or mathematical physics. Candidates with a PhD degree in quantum engineering will also be considered, but it will further be required that they also have a strong mathematical background. The candidates must further have an emerging research track in the field, evidence of excellent teaching at undergraduate and graduate level (e.g. teaching evaluations, awards, having completed pedagogical and supervision courses), evidence of project/s participation with competitive research funding (at national and/or international level).
We are seeking highly motivated candidates, who works and communicates well in an international team. The candidates must be able to carry out independent and rigorous work at top international level.

Requirements for the position
Employment as a professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level in mathematics, mathematical physics or a closely related field.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.
As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.
Conditions of employment
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
