Research & Development
Denmark - Måløv

We are looking for an experienced scientist to work on automated high-throughput (HTP) microbial strain engineering and heterologous expression. If you find tasks like these exciting and challenging, you may be our new colleague.

About the department
Microbial Expression (MiE) is part of Recombinant Technologies and has microbial strain engineering, protein engineering and protein production as core tasks. The primary responsibility of MiE is to ensure timely support to our research projects with a broad range of protein expression technologies, strain optimization tools and production strains.

The job
As a scientist in MiE your primary focus will be on engineering yeast strains for improved production of proteins and peptides of pharmaceutical relevance. Another important aspect is to set up various screens and selections for identification of superior strains. You will also work with HTP protein expression technologies currently running on our automated workstations.

We offer a challenging research environment where we work closely together with dedicated scientists across the organization, including specialists within the disease-areas, mammalian expression systems, immuno-technology, cell culture, robotics and protein technology. The position offers excellent opportunities for developing scientific and personal competences within an international organization.
We value a collaborative, positive, honest and responsible attitude and strive for high scientific standards to secure progress for our teams and projects.

Qualifications
The preferred candidate is an excellent molecular biologist holding a relevant scientific degree (biology, biochemistry, engineering or similar) supplemented with a PhD and preferably 5 years industrial experience within e.g. synthetic biology, microbial molecular genetics and/or high-throughput automation of molecular biology processes. You have extensive experience with development of yeast and bacterial strains, targeted multiplex genome editing tools and application of automated procedures for screening and genome editing.

You have an in-depth knowledge of microbial heterologous protein expression and optimization of same. In addition, hands-on experience with gram-positive bacteria, FACS based screens, next-generation sequencing tools and handling of large datasets with e.g. Python or other high-level, general-purpose programming languages is beneficial.
You cover all aspects of the experimental work from planning and design of experiments over practical execution of experiments to documentation and presentation of the results to colleagues across the organization. You understand the intellectual property, quality and practical requirements involved in the development of recombinant proteins and peptides for human therapeutic use.

Efficient communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing are some of your important qualities as well as being flexible and capable of adapting in an often-changing research environment.

Solid English capabilities are required for writing documentation and for communication with colleagues in a multinational corporation.

At Novo Nordisk, we strive for excellence. As a world leader in diabetes care and a major player in haemostasis management, obesity treatment, growth hormone therapy and hormone replacement therapy, we offer our employees opportunities for continuous growth.
