We are looking for an experienced molecular cell biologist to be part of Novo Nordisk A/S and participate in changing the quality of life for millions of people living with chronic diseases.
About the department
The Diabetes & Metabolism department is part of Global Diabetes, Cardio-Renal and Translational Research, a cross functional research area within Global Drug Discovery, Novo Nordisk A/S. As part of Novo Nordisk’s new strategy within chronic diseases, the team will focus on target identification, target validation and pre-clinical characterisation of new assets to become novel treatment options for patients with cardiometabolic diseases. In Diabetes and Metabolism Biology we work in an organ-centric and disease agnostic manner. We have two teams, Muscle & Adipose Biology and Liver & Gut Biology, working with high interdependencies to develop, characterise and use in vitro tools to elucidate mode-of-action and profiling of novel biology and molecules for early evaluation of drug candidates.
The position
We are seeking a talented and experienced molecular cell biologist with a strong background in target discovery, in vitro characterisation and validation for cardiometabolic diseases.
There will be an emphasis on development of human cell-based in vitro disease phenotypic models and experience in advanced in vitro models, such as co-culture systems, organoids, organs-on-chip or micro-physiological models, is a requirement. Strong analytical capabilities are required and experience in performing and analysing sequencing data is considered an advantage.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up new cell-based model systems, exploring novel target opportunities and executing on established projects. This includes design of in vitro studies to validate human relevance, assess translational tools and exploration of a target’s putative mechanism of action.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team exploring and identifying new treatment options for diabetes, cardiovascular- and kidney disease. You will work closely with scientists and technicians throughout the organisation to move projects forward across the value chain. Furthermore, you will take part in identifying new targets as well as evaluating potential external opportunities from academia, biotech or pharma.
Qualifications
You hold a Ph.D. and have a minimum of 8 years of experience in biological sciences, medicine or biological engineering with in-depth knowledge and proven scientific track-record in cardiometabolic disease pathophysiology. You have in-depth expertise in molecular and cell biology and knowledge of muscle and/or adipose tissue biology and metabolism. In addition, it is considered an advantage to have relevant experience within other metabolic organs such as liver or gut.
International work experience and a solid international scientific network are mandatory. In addition to your scientific profile, you are a dedicated, open-minded, and an innovative team player with good collaboration and problem-solving skills. You are organized and result oriented.
