Kongens Lyngby
The Quantum Light Sources Group at DTU Electro, Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark, is seeking a qualified and highly motivated employee to support our theoretical activity. You will work on optical simulations of sources of single indistinguishable photons based on semiconductor quantum dots.
Solid-state sources of single photons are expected to play an essential role in various quantum information applications, such as secure communications, quantum computation, and metrology. These applications require deterministic on-demand emission as well as high efficiency, purity, and indistinguishability of the emitted photons. A promising platform for a deterministic single-photon source (SPS) is based on the semiconductor quantum dot (QD) placed in a solid-state environment.
The job
You will participate in a project team with several senior researchers and Ph.D. students, which will design and fabricate quantum-dot-based SPSs meeting all the requirements of the quantum information applications. The focus of this student worker job is within the numerical simulation activities, in particular you will perform optical simulations of relevant nanophotonic structures using the Fourier Modal Method.
The primary responsibilities are to:
Our expectations of you
We expect you to hold a BSc degree and have studied quantum mechanics, quantum optics or similar courses. Furthermore, you should have previous experience with advanced programming e.g. in Python or Matlab and with performing optical simulations using the Fourier Modal Method. Finally, previous experience with writing scientific articles and publishing in international peer-reviewed scientific journal is recommended.
What we offer in return
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as an Academic Specialist. The period of employment is 1 January 2023 or soon thereafter, until 30 June 2023. The position is part time (11 hours per week).
Your place of work will be at DTU Lyngby Campus.
Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than 12 December 2022. Open the “Apply online” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.
If you would like additional information about the position, please contact Professor Niels Gregersen, email: [email protected] , phone: +45 4525 3789.
You can read more about DTU Electro at www.electro.dtu.dk.
Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, disability, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
DTU Electro has 300 employees with competences in optics. In a typical year, DTU Electro educates 50 PhD students from more than 25 countries and our student numbers are constantly growing. As one of Europe’s largest public photonics research departments, DTU Electro covers a multitude of optical disciplines ranging from fundamental light-matter interaction and optical telecommunications to applied research and innovation. Our research topics include optical sensors, lasers, LEDs, photovoltaics, ultra-high speed optical transmission systems, bio-photonics, nano-optics and quantum photonics.
