About the department
R&D Contracts is part of Global R&D Business Development in the newly formed SVP area; Corporate Development. We are responsible for drafting and negotiation of R&D agreements, and we offer an exciting position where you can help drive innovation, support the portfolio and external collaborations in Research and Early Development (R&ED).
You will be reporting to the Head of R&D Contracts and will be part of a high performing team of 8 dedicated colleagues with similar responsibilities. We are based in Måløv, Denmark, but you will also be working from our HQ in Bagsværd from time to time. Partly remote working could also become a possibility, if desired.
The position
In close collaboration with R&ED colleagues in Denmark, USA, UK and China, you will have independent responsibility for drafting and negotiating R&D agreements with academia, biotech companies and other industry partners globally. This will require some work time flexibility.
As a Contract Manager your aim is to ensure appropriate business and legal terms for Novo Nordisk with primary focus on intellectual property rights and knowledge transfer to Novo Nordisk. R&D agreements comprise of, among others, collaborative research agreements, technology licenses, Postdoc and PhD agreements, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements and data transfer agreements. All contracts are drafted and negotiated in English. Danish language skills are not required.
The position will require an ability to drive multiple projects and negotiations simultaneously – leading to finalising well-balanced agreements completed in a focussed and timely manner. Most negotiations are handled over emails, Teams calls, thus the position requires limited travel activity.
You will also be involved in cross-functional assignments, legal advice, business ethics and compliance issues, maintenance of contract templates and knowledge tools, presentations etc. The job will enable you to establish strong networks across the organisation and with external partners worldwide. Across your tasks, you will work closely together with colleagues, e.g. in Corporate Legal, Corporate Patents and Corporate Finance.
Qualifications
You hold a Master’s degree in law, business law or other relevant field and have 2-4 years of working experience from a similar job function with a law firm, life science industry or research institution. You have a solid IPR and/or GDPR knowledge, preferably also contracting experience with collaborations between the pharmaceutical industry and academia as well as an understanding of the underlying legal aspects. Moreover, you are excellent in stakeholder management and relation building skills, you have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate complicated issues in a clear and concise manner, preferably with good power point skills. Experience with personal data (GDPR or US privacy law) and/or human biosamples in research collaborations is an obvious advantage.
As a person, you are outgoing with a strong personal drive and dedication. Your strong interpersonal skills assist you in creating trustful relations, and you bring a good sense of humour to your work – even when the pressure is on. We expect you to be a true team-player with a positive and open-minded personality and a “can-do” attitude.
You are great at focusing on solutions and opportunities and have a willingness to proactively take on responsibilities and tasks. You collaborate well across boundaries and departments and thrive working in a busy, global environment.
