About the department
The Department of Bioinformatics and Data Mining combines strong computational skills with biological insights through the integrative analysis of internal and external biomedical data. Our analytical expertise spans a wide range of areas, from sequence analysis, many different omics, pathway analysis, to text-mining. We contribute to all aspects of pre-clinical research projects at Novo Nordisk, where we act as bioinformatics and data analysis experts and drive the bioinformatics analytical and application solutions and best practices across the company as well as participating in external collaborations with academic and industrial partners. We value diversity of skills, cultures, and backgrounds in our team and believe that our work results in real impacts on new medicines for diseases of highly unmet medical need. We are currently a team of 20 scientists, and in addition, the department includes students and external consultants.
Bioinformatics and Data mining is anchored in Digital Science & Innovation (DSI) organisation within Research & Early Development (R&ED) at Novo Nordisk. DSI is responsible for driving the digital journey across all our therapy areas in R&ED. In DSI, we work in multidisciplinary teams – in strong collaboration with all areas across R&ED and R&ED IT. We participate in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development. We engage in external collaborations to ensure access to the latest research and technology enablers, and we automate our labs and processes, and we focus on developing and retaining top talent.

The position
Your main responsibility will be:
- Contributing the advanced analytics platform for NGS data derived from a across the organization
- Driving innovative scientific solution as well as ensuring practical scientific outcomes within the broader scope of novel therapeutic technologies currently being pursued at Novo Nordisk
- Productionising the data pipeline and analysis from the instruments to analytics platforms
- Providing guidance on experimental designs and developing the strategy and scientific leadership for NGS analysis
- Apart from that, the position requires collaboration with different departments within early research such as research technologies, computational biology, advanced analytics, as well as ontology and data modelling.
Qualifications
The main qualifications are as below:
- PhD within a computational life-science discipline, such as Bioinformatics or Data Science on biological data, and at least 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry or academia
- Excellent track record and broad knowledge within applying data science to challenging life-scientific problems (i.e. of NGS data and general sequence analysis algorithms, predictive and generative models). Experience in the areas of either target identification or biologics design is considered a plus
- Experience within programming, statistical analysis, machine learning, cloud computing and productionizing data analysis workflows is considered a must
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to respond to shifting priorities in a dynamic setting, a positive attitude towards challenges, and great communication skills to thrive in a multidisciplinary, collaborative working environment
