The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (DTU Construct) at the Technical University of Denmark is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for a fully funded PhD position. The PhD position is part of the “RECODE” project funded by DFF (Independent Research Fund Denmark-Inge Lehmann program). This innovative project aims to revolutionize Engineer-To-Order (ETO) companies through the implementation of state-of-the-art Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) techniques. The focus is on developing advanced Recommender Systems (RS) to optimize product design, enhance operational efficiency, and promote sustainability in ETOs. The main objective of this research is to: (1) leverage state-of-the-art DL techniques to capture and analyze the relationships/similarities between different complicated products, and (2) develop an open-source tool that automates the DL model training while facilitating similarity analysis.

You will be an integral part of a dynamic working environment characterized by a congenial team atmosphere, offering ample opportunities for your academic, industry, and personal skill development. Beyond engaging in cutting-edge research, PhD students actively participate in international research projects, collaborate with industry partners, visit renowned international universities with exceptional research recognition in the field, and are afforded the chance to contribute to teaching courses and co-supervise BSc and MSc students. These experiences are designed to equip you with the essential skills needed for the next stages of your career.

Responsibilities:

  • Algorithm Design and Development:
    • Collect and preprocess data for training DL algorithms.
    • Explore and implement various DL algorithms for product feature analysis.
    • Develop an ML-based Recommender System for product design optimization.

  • Open-source Tool Development:
    • Evaluate and implement automatic ML for DL model training.
    • Design and implement the user interface, backend services, and necessary logics.
    • Package the automatic ML algorithm into an open-source tool.
    • Develop an integration plugin for extracting data from third-party systems.

Qualifications:
