Kongens Lyngby

DTU Management’s Transport Division invites applications for a 3-year PhD position in the field of driver behaviour and driving culture. The successful candidate will join the Human Behaviour section and will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor Felix Siebert, Assistant Professor Ravi Seshadri, and Professor Sonja Haustein.

The PhD will investigate the impact of cultural factors on driver behaviour using a combined questionnaire survey and driving simulator methodology in case-studies carried out in Denmark and India. Existing driver behaviour models will be used to explain inter-participant differences in behaviour, and models will be extended to include potential behavioural relations to differences in driving culture. In addition to simulator experiments, subjective data on driving norms, social responsibility, and adherence to driving laws will be collected in an online questionnaire survey in Denmark and India.

The project is a strategic collaboration between the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and its Alliance Network partner Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). You will be based at DTU and will receive your PhD from there. You will visit IITB for a fully funded one semester research stay in Mumbai, India.

You will be a member of the Human Behaviour section at the Department for Technology, Management and Economics (DTU Management) at the Technical University of Denmark. You will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor Felix Siebert, Professor Sonja Haustein, and Assistant Professor Ravi Seshadri (Transportation Systems Modelling section). Further supervision is provided by Professor Nagendra Rao Velaga and Professor Vedagiri Perumal from the Civil Engineering Department at IITB.
