The Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 1.5-year postdoc position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on Amazonian biogeography.
The position is for 18 months and is available from 1st of January 2020 or as soon as possible hereafter.
Job description/research project/research area
You are expected to contribute to the project Amazonian biogeography: Integrating satellite and field data at a continental scale. The main aim of the project is to test different hypotheses about the determinants of species distribution patterns and evolutionary processes across Amazonia by taking advantage of extensive field datasets (1700+ quantitative floristic inventories on palms and/or ferns already assembled by our teams) and environmental data (including a new basinwide Landsat TM/ETM image composite).
You are expected to take part in the planning of and preparing for additional data collecting campaigns in Amazonia. You also have the possibility to participate in the fieldwork, which may take as much as four months over the duration of the project. You are expected to participate in curation and analysis of existing data and in writing research papers.
You should provide a plan that outlines how you foresee contributing to the project and how you would approach the research questions mentioned above. Please also specify which parts of the project you are most interested in and/or most qualified for.

The Department of Bioscience hosts research programmes, teaching curricula and consultancy that cover all major biological sub-disciplines. The Department conducts world-class research in the areas of Aquatic Biology and Ecology, Arctic Environment and Ecosystems, Biodiversity and Conservation Biology, Genetics and Evolution, Microbiology, and Zoophysiology. The Department currently employs approximately 350 academic and technical staff and 75 PhD students. In addition to the PhD-programme, BSc and MSc study programmes with close to 500 students enrolled are offered.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
Formalities and salary range
Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Further information on qualification requirements and job content may be found in the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities.
Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.

- Publishing in high-quality international journals
