Århus V

The Department of Management at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a 3-year postdoctoral position offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a new research project on digitalization and computational thinking in education.

The starting date is 1/2/2020 or subject to mutual agreement.

The research project
The successful applicant will be part of a team that looks into forms and methods for introducing digitalization and computational thinking as topics in the educational programs of Aarhus BSS. Besides being part of the project of digitalization and computational thinking in education, the applicant will be affiliated with the Center for Computational Thinking and Design and the Department of Management at Aarhus BSS.

The post doc will focus on the digital maturity of the students at Aarhus BSS on the assumption that digital maturity will be a key skillset to be effective in the future workplace. In recent years, we have witnessed how the introduction of digital technologies is changing the way in which knowledge work is carried out and this requires a more sophisticated and critical approach to technology then previously taught. Applicants are expected to (1) research how digitalization and computational thinking maturity of the students can be measured; (2) develop a survey tool to measure maturity; (3) analyse the data with respect to techniques and methods to increase maturity of the students: and (4) develop a visualization tool (dashboard). The main objective of the post doc project is to generate new publishable knowledge in the area of digital maturity. We welcome applicants with theoretically advanced and practically relevant ideas about the opportunities of digital transformation in education.

Research topics
Relevant research topics that may be pursued include:
  • How can digital transformation of education of the business school (including management, economics, law, psychology, and political science) prepare students (skills, competences, mindsets) to become part of the future digital workforce of the 21st century?
  • How the education at the business school can support the integration of technological capabilities (learning algorithms, AI, big data analytics) with human capabilities (judgment, prediction, decision-making)?
  • How can professors and students create new learning environments for business and management education focused on digitalization?

Job description
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the overall objectives of the project by being involved in the data collection and analysis and article writing towards both the academic and the business audiences.
